PG&E Power Shutoff May Hit 88,000 Customers in 29 Counties

Oakland – October 14, 2026 -- Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) says a potential Public Safety Power Shutoff could affect about 88,000 customers, running from Wednesday evening, October 14, through Saturday afternoon. Customers can check their address at pge.com/pspsupdates.

The scope shifted by 25,000 customers as the forecast changed

As weather conditions evolved, PG&E added approximately 25,000 customers to the event and removed approximately 7,300. The 88,000 figure spans 29 counties and includes about 5,500 Medical Baseline customers and six Tribal governments.

A dry offshore wind event drives the fire risk

PG&E is monitoring a dry offshore wind event forecast to run from Wednesday evening through Saturday morning, October 17. It is a statewide fire weather event. The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for parts of Kern County, primarily around Lebec. A Fire Weather Watch extends from Bakersfield across the southern plains from San Luis Obispo to Santa Barbara.

Community Resource Centers will open in 23 counties

PG&E plans to open more than 40 Community Resource Centers across 23 counties during the potential shutoff. Each center offers ADA-accessible restrooms, device charging, Wi-Fi, blankets, air conditioning, bottled water, snacks and other supplies. Locations are listed on the PG&E Outage Center's "Ways We Can Help" page.

211 offers help before, during and after an outage

PG&E urges customers who may need extra support to contact 211 now. The service helps people who rely on power for medical needs, have a disability or have other needs. Customers can call 211, text "PSPS" to 211 or visit 211.org.

PG&E sent notifications this morning to the 25,000 customers newly in scope.
