NEW YORK – September 17, 2026 -- A new clinical study finds that a single application of Biodance's Real Deep Hydrogel Mask returned skin to its pre-procedure baseline within hours of fractional laser treatment, a procedure known to temporarily damage the skin's protective barrier.
Researchers tested 32 participants using a split-face design.
Each participant underwent fractional laser treatment, then had the Real Deep Mask applied to one half of the face while the other half remained untreated, allowing direct comparison under identical conditions. Board-certified dermatologists Dr. Luke Maxfield and Dr. Christopher Tomassian presented the results.
The treated skin showed faster barrier repair and reduced redness.
On the mask-treated side, transepidermal water loss (TEWL) returned to pre-procedure levels, while the untreated side remained elevated. Redness was reduced compared to the untreated half, and hydration levels rose substantially above baseline -- the largest change recorded in the study -- while the untreated side simply returned to normal.
No participants experienced adverse reactions despite testing on freshly lasered skin.
All 32 participants completed the study with zero adverse events or dropouts, and 100% reported a positive experience across all surveyed measures.
Dermatologists say the results confirm what they already see in clinical practice.
"What stood out to me in this data wasn't a single dramatic number, it was that skin treated with the mask returned to its pre-procedure baseline within hours, while the untreated side didn't," said Dr. Luke Maxfield. Dr. Christopher Tomassian said he already uses hydrogel-based dressings after laser treatments in his own practice because they calm inflammation and provide immediate relief to patients.
Researchers attribute the results to hydrogel's structure and prolonged skin contact.
The mask's 3D polymer network holds significant water while permitting airflow, and its viscoelastic gel conforms to curved facial areas like the nose and jawline more uniformly than flat sheet masks. Because the hydrogel stays in place, it sustains recovery conditions over time rather than requiring reapplication.
The study used medical-grade instruments to measure recovery.
Conducted by the Human Skin Clinical Trial Center Co., Ltd. under Principal Investigator Won Gyu Hong, M.D., the study used PicoSure Fraxel laser treatment and measured barrier function with a VapoMeter, redness with Antera 3D, and hydration with an Epsilon E100 device.
The Real Deep Mask has sold over 300 million units globally.
