Record 1,076 Families Seek Help Paying for Fertility Treatment

Chicago – October 14, 2026 -- The Stork Foundation for Infertility is asking supporters to donate $6 through Giving Tuesday, December 1, 2026, after receiving a record 1,076 applications for fertility treatment grants this year.

Most applicants had no insurance coverage for treatment

The nonprofit analyzed its 2026 applicant data and found that 85% had no insurance coverage for the fertility treatment they were pursuing. Applicants expected their next course of treatment to cost $19,149 on average. And 39% had already spent more than $10,000 out of pocket before applying. Applications came from all 50 states.

The "$6 for 1 in 6" campaign asks for a $6 gift in honor of a child

The campaign takes its name from the World Health Organization's finding that one in six people worldwide experience infertility. Supporters are asked to donate $6 in honor of a child whose life was made possible through fertility treatment. All funds raised go toward additional fertility treatment grants through the Foundation's annual grant program.

Founder Elizabeth Frattura said that too many families are forced to delay or forgo care because they cannot afford it.

Employer coverage for IVF remains limited

KFF's 2024 Employer Health Benefits Survey found that just 27% of large employers offering health benefits reported providing IVF coverage. More than 100,000 babies were born through IVF in the United States in 2024, yet many families still struggle to afford treatment.

Grants reach up to $15,000, with recipients notified in November

Founded in 2020, the Foundation provides fertility treatment grants of up to $15,000 to eligible individuals and couples facing financial barriers. It is currently reviewing its 2026 applications, and grant recipients are expected to be notified in November.
