Roxbury – October 07, 2026 -- CVS Health has opened a new pharmacy-focused store at 32 Warren Street in Roxbury, part of a national rollout of nearly 20 smaller, pharmacy-only locations launching in select communities in 2026.
The Roxbury store ditches the traditional front-of-store layout for a compact, 3,000-square-foot footprint.
Unlike CVS's typical full-service stores, the new format carries a customized selection of over-the-counter products rather than a full retail aisle lineup. Patients who need items not stocked in-store can order them for free home delivery instead.
The location adds a medication disposal bin and a needle collection site for community use.
Residents can safely dispose of unneeded, unwanted or expired medications, as well as used sharps, directly at the pharmacy.
CVS has already opened similar pharmacy-focused sites in five other U.S. cities.
Locations are already operating in Birmingham, Alabama; Chicago; Detroit; Houston; and Washington, D.C. The company also plans to open more than 40 additional CVS Pharmacy locations this year, including traditional stores and pharmacies inside Target.
CVS says the shift responds to patient data showing strong demand for in-person pharmacy visits.
According to the company's 2025 CVS Health Rx Report, 80% of patients prefer face-to-face pharmacy care, and 48% said they would switch pharmacies if limited to digital-only service. The report also found that 97% of pharmacy professionals consider in-person interactions essential to patient care.
"Being able to speak with a pharmacist one-on-one, having questions answered and getting advice and counsel when needed is crucial to helping patients maintain and achieve their best health," said Marco Mares, Pharmacy Manager at the Roxbury CVS Pharmacy.
The pharmacy-focused format joins other CVS store types already operating nationwide, including store-in-store pharmacies inside Target and Schnucks grocery locations, CVS Pharmacy sites paired with MinuteClinic medical clinics, and locations situated alongside Oak Street Health care centers.
