Shanxi's Knotted Brooches and Glazeware Win Over Geneva Diplomats

Beijing – October 19, 2026 -- China's Shanxi province brought hand-knotted brooches, colored glazeware and lacquerware to more than 100 foreign diplomats at a Geneva reception in late September. Some guests left talking about visiting.

Datong artist made edelweiss brooches for Swiss guests on the spot

The reception was hosted by the Chinese Permanent Mission to the United Nations Office at Geneva. Knotting artist Yang Xuefei of Datong displayed 48 brooches made with 'Datong knotting', a recognized intangible cultural heritage (ICH) craft. She also made several pieces on-site for Swiss visitors.

Those pieces featured the edelweiss, a national symbol of Switzerland. They also carried ornamental flying ribbons inspired by statues at the Yungang Grottoes. Yang and her colleagues have created more than 500 cultural products using the technique and have shown them in a number of countries.

Trading Coach Warns: There's No Shortcut to Financial Freedom

Baar – September 10, 2026 -- Jonathan Eitel of the Eitel Academy is pushing back against the idea that trading offers a fast track to financial independence, arguing that real market skill takes years, not weeks, to build.

Theory and live trading are not the same skill

Eitel says many men over 30 are drawn to trading by the promise of flexible hours and location independence, especially since strategy videos and courses are now widely available online. But he warns that analyzing past charts is fundamentally different from making decisions with real capital on the line. "Anyone who thinks they can trade safely after a few videos is overestimating themselves," Eitel explains, noting that decisions must hold up under genuine financial pressure.
