Miami – October 02, 2026 -- Royal Caribbean will debut the first-ever at-sea production of "The SpongeBob Musical" aboard Hero of the Seas, its fourth Icon Class ship, when the vessel sets sail from Miami in August 2027.
The show, inspired by the Tony Award-nominated Broadway musical and the Nickelodeon animated series, will run in the ship's Royal Theater. It brings the undersea world of Bikini Bottom to the stage with original songs, elaborate sets and the story of SpongeBob and his friends racing to save their town from destruction.
Royal Caribbean frames the show as entertainment for every generation
"'The SpongeBob Musical' delivers on that by bringing generations together through a story families know and love, while showcasing the creativity, cutting-edge technology and world-class production that can only be experienced on a Royal Caribbean vacation," said Christi Coachman, Royal Caribbean's vice president of entertainment.
Hero of the Seas packs eight themed neighborhoods and nine pools
Beyond the theater, the ship features Crown's Edge, a skywalk-and-zip-line experience suspended 154 feet above the ocean, and Category 6, billed as the largest waterpark at sea. Nine pools are planned, including the new Coconut Cove and the adults-only Hideaway, which has two pools and what Royal Caribbean calls the largest swim-up bar at sea.
The ship adds 28 dining venues and a three-deck family treehouse
Dining options include the multi-course Orleans Parrish Supper Club and an immersive train-car experience called Royal Railway – Hero Station. New family accommodations include the three-deck Ultimate Family Treehouse, which has a rooftop terrace, a whirlpool and a two-deck teen space.
Itineraries run seven nights from Miami with stops across the Caribbean
Hero of the Seas will offer 7-night Eastern and Western Caribbean voyages, each including a stop at Royal Caribbean's Perfect Day CocoCay in The Bahamas. Western itineraries add Cozumel, Mexico, and Roatan, Honduras, while Eastern routes call at Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, and Philipsburg, St. Maarten.
