Shipt Launches AI Tool That Turns Photos and Prompts Into Shopping Carts

Birmingham – September 14, 2026 -- Shipt has launched Ask Shipt, an AI shopping assistant that lets customers build a complete grocery cart by typing a request or uploading a photo, available now in the Shipt app and on Shipt.com.

Users can snap a photo to build a cart instantly

Customers who see a dish on social media or at a restaurant can photograph it, upload the image to Ask Shipt, and the tool identifies the ingredients and adds them to a cart automatically. The same feature works from typed prompts, such as requests for a weeknight dinner for a family of five under $35 or a Saturday tailgate for 25 people that includes brunch items.

Every recommendation stays fully editable before checkout

Shoppers select a retailer from Shipt's marketplace, then find Ask Shipt beneath the search bar. Items generated by the assistant can be reviewed, swapped, or removed before purchase, so dietary needs and personal preferences remain intact.

Katie Stratton, Chief Growth & Strategy Officer at Shipt, said the tool is meant to bring people-centric AI directly into the shopping journey, helping members move from inspiration to a personalized cart across Shipt's network of more than 100 retailer partners.

Shared Lists will let households build carts together

Ask Shipt joins existing features including shopping through ChatGPT and Claude and curated seasonal Shipt Kits. A collaborative tool called Shared Lists is coming soon, letting family members, roommates, or friends add items to a shared list in real time that converts into a cart with one click.

Smrutha Ipparthi, Chief Technology & Product Officer at Shipt, said the goal is to help people spend less time managing shopping and more time on other priorities.

New customers can get $10 off through the end of September

Shipt is offering $10 off orders with code ASKSHIPT2026 through September 30, 2026, excluding orders containing alcohol. Deliveries under $35 with a membership incur a $7 fee, and orders with alcohol may carry an additional $7 fee where available. Service fees vary by retailer and location.
