SHERIDAN, WYOMING – Dec. 19, 2024 – ChargePoint, a leading provider of EV charging solutions, and General Motors (GM) have announced a new collaboration to significantly expand fast charging infrastructure across the United States. This initiative aims to install up to 500 ultra-fast charging ports at strategic locations, making EV charging more accessible and convenient for drivers.

Accelerating the EV Transition

This collaboration between ChargePoint and GM represents a major step forward in accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles. By increasing the availability of fast charging options, the companies are addressing one of the key barriers to EV ownership: range anxiety.

"The transition to electric mobility continues to be driven by leaders such as General Motors offering innovative EVs and committing to make chargers as ubiquitous as possible," said Rick Wilmer, CEO of ChargePoint. "Our collaboration with GM represents a significant investment in the infrastructure to enable fast and easy charging for all. Together, ChargePoint and GM will deliver a seamless fast charging experience via reliable charging hardware managed by our industry leading software platform."

Cutting-Edge Charging Technology

The charging stations deployed through this collaboration will feature ChargePoint's Express Plus platform, capable of delivering ultra-fast charging speeds up to 500kW. This means significantly reduced charging times for EV drivers, allowing them to get back on the road quickly.

Furthermore, many locations will be equipped with ChargePoint's innovative Omni Port system. This system allows vehicles with both CCS and NACS charging ports to charge seamlessly at any station, eliminating the need for adapters and ensuring compatibility with a wide range of EV models.

Improving the EV Ownership Experience

By expanding access to fast and convenient charging, ChargePoint and GM are making EV ownership more appealing to a wider range of consumers.

"Continuing to provide customers with better charging options helps to remove barriers to EV adoption and improve the ownership experience. Today, GM drivers have access to hundreds of thousands of places to charge and we are proud that this collaboration with ChargePoint adds even more reliable, accessible and convenient charging experiences," said Wade Sheffer, GM Energy vice president. "With ultra-fast charging, Omni Port technology, and excellent customer experiences, this collaboration should be another reason why EV drivers and the EV-curious should be excited."

Incentivizing Infrastructure Development

To further accelerate the deployment of DC fast charging infrastructure, ChargePoint and GM are implementing an incentive program for third-party charge point operators (CPOs). This program aims to make it easier for CPOs to own and operate EV charging stations, contributing to the growth of the charging network.
