Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 N TA Sets New EV Lap Record at Tsukuba

SHERIDAN, WYOMING – Feb. 27, 2025 – Hyundai has once again made waves in the electric vehicle (EV) performance arena, setting a new lap record at the prestigious ‘Attack Tsukuba 2025’ motorsport event in Japan. Held on February 15th, the event witnessed Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 N TA (Time Attack) Spec achieving an unprecedented feat, solidifying its position as a leader in high-performance EVs.

Record-Breaking Performance at Tsukuba

Hyundai N entered the event with the Ioniq 5 N TA Spec, piloted by the renowned Japanese professional driver, Nobuteru Taniguchi. The Ioniq 5 N TA Spec, a motorsport variant of the Ioniq 5 N, has already proven its mettle by securing victory at the 2024 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (PPIHC) in the modified production electric SUV category, establishing a new record in the process.

Minimal Modifications, Maximum Impact

Hyundai emphasizes that the Ioniq 5 N TA Spec is designed to showcase the inherent strengths of the production-spec Ioniq 5 N without necessitating extensive modifications. The vehicle retains the standard car’s high-performance power electronics (PE) system. Through strategic software tuning, the TA Spec’s maximum output has been elevated to 687ps, with the rear motor’s power augmented by 37ps compared to the standard Ioniq 5 N.

Enhanced Features for Peak Performance

Additional enhancements to the Ioniq 5 N TA Spec include:

  • N Active Sound+ with modified speakers, capable of exceeding 120dB.
  • New shock absorbers for improved handling.
  • Uprated brakes for superior stopping power.
  • 18in Yokohama Advan 005 slick tires for optimal grip.
  • A high-downforce aerodynamic package for enhanced stability.
  • A dedicated EV fire suppression system for safety.

A New Benchmark for EVs

With a remarkable lap time of 57.446 seconds, the Ioniq 5 N TA Spec has established itself as the fastest EV to ever conquer the Tsukuba Circuit. This achievement is nearly two seconds faster than its closest EV competitor, a testament to the vehicle’s exceptional performance, especially considering its reliance on primarily production components in critical systems such as its motors, battery, and control electronics.

Statements from Hyundai N Leadership

“Today’s record is a clear demonstration of Hyundai’s commitment to advancing EV technologies and delivering exceptional performance,” stated Joon Park, head of N Management Group.

Park further added, “The Ioniq 5 N TA Spec’s new record, using primarily production components, is not only a significant milestone that validates our technological prowess, but also demonstrates Hyundai N’s commitment to bringing high performance EVs deeper into global car culture through events such as Attack Tsukuba.”
