Toyota’s HEAL Program Delivers Healthcare on Wheels to Filipino Communities

SHERIDAN, WYOMING – July 28, 2025 – Getting to the doctor shouldn’t feel like a marathon—especially when you're already feeling unwell. That’s the powerful truth behind Toyota’s new “Healthcare Mobility for All” (HEAL) initiative, a heartfelt blend of mobility innovation and social impact, designed to bring healthcare directly to the people who need it most in the Philippines.

Imagine swapping a day-long journey for a 15-minute consultation right in your neighborhood. Or trading a risky late-night commute for a safe shuttle to work. That’s what HEAL sets out to do—empower patients and healthcare workers alike through practical, compassionate mobility.

Healthcare that Comes to You

At the heart of HEAL is a bold promise: bring medical care to communities, not the other way around. Toyota is converting two of its Coaster vehicles into fully equipped mobile clinics that will serve rural areas like Cavite—where reaching hospitals like the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) can be a daunting task.

These mobile clinics aren't just rolling band-aid stations. They’ll be integrated into PGH’s digital ecosystem, allowing for:

  • Online appointment booking
  • Streamlined queueing through future IT systems
  • Onboard diagnostic services for essential checkups

This isn’t just about convenience—it’s about dignity, timely care, and peace of mind for families who’ve long faced barriers to even the most basic medical attention.

Making the Commute Healthier for Healthcare Heroes

HEAL doesn’t forget those working tirelessly behind the scenes: doctors, nurses, and hospital staff. In a country where night shifts often mean navigating multiple, sometimes unsafe public transport options, Toyota’s solution is refreshingly thoughtful.

Three modern Toyota shuttles will be deployed to:

  • Provide safe, dedicated transport for PGH healthcare workers
  • Cover the challenging early-morning and late-night shifts
  • Reduce dependence on multiple transfers and improve commute reliability

For many frontline workers, this means more time with patients, less time in traffic, and a safer, more dignified journey to and from work.

Why This Matters in Real Life

We often take transportation for granted—but in healthcare, mobility is often the deciding factor between early treatment and emergency care. The HEAL program redefines mobility not as a luxury, but as a lifeline.

It addresses two overlooked but deeply human realities:

  • Many patients in remote areas delay care because of travel time, cost, or logistics.
  • Healthcare professionals face exhausting and often risky commutes that impact their performance and wellbeing.

With HEAL, both groups gain access to something essential: the freedom to focus on health, not how to reach it.

Voices Behind the Movement

“Mobility equals opportunity—this is what HEAL symbolizes,” said Susumu Matsuda, Deputy Chairman of the Board, Toyota Mobility Foundation. “With strong partnership with Toyota Motor Philippines Foundation and Philippine General Hospital, we are excited to connect people to the care they need, when and where they need it, we are supporting lives, communities, and a more inclusive future in Philippines.”

“We believe that our ‘Mobility plus Health’ advocacy can empower and change lives,” shared Alfred Ty, Chairman of Toyota Motor Philippines Foundation. “That is why we are proud to be part of this program -- to make basic healthcare accessible for all.”

“Together, we are working to build the future of healthcare—one that maintains the highest standards of care while bringing it closer to the communities we serve,” added Dr. Gerardo Legaspi, Director of PGH.

How HEAL Stands Apart

Unlike conventional outreach programs that rely on patients making long trips to centralized hospitals, HEAL reverses the model. It’s mobile-first, community-centered, and digitally connected. By integrating healthcare access with smart mobility, it creates a real-life solution to everyday obstacles.

A Future Model for Asia

The program runs from July 2025 to December 2026, with launch dates for the mobile clinics and shuttles to be announced soon. Beyond the Philippines, HEAL is intended as a model for broader adoption across Asia—demonstrating how transportation can be a powerful lever for public health equity.

In the end, HEAL is not just about vehicles. It’s about vision—one where healthcare is brought closer to the people, and mobility becomes a bridge to dignity, connection, and better lives.
