GoPro Series Follows Skier's BASE Jump Off a Chamonix Face

San Mateo – October 21, 2026 -- Episode 1 of GoPro's six-part series "The Line Above" is live on the GoPro Snow YouTube channel, with new episodes every Wednesday through Nov. 25. The show follows pro skier, BASE jumper and GoPro Athlete Matthias "Super Frenchie" Giraud through a two-year effort to ski BASE jump from the north face of the Aiguille du Plan above Chamonix in the French Alps.

Giraud skied a 600-meter, 50-degree face on May 26, 2026

The route included two 60-meter rappels anchored in ice. Giraud finished by skiing off the bottom serac and opening his parachute midair. The face was first skied in 1977 and has been descended only a handful of times. According to Giraud, no one had ever exited the line with a ski BASE jump.

Episode 1 revisits the jump that made Giraud a GoPro name

Titled "Becoming Super Frenchie," the first episode returns to Giraud's 2011 jump above Megève. He skied off a cliff, triggered an avalanche and opened his parachute as the snow poured over the edge behind him. The helmet-cam clip became one of GoPro's first viral videos.

The episode then covers his 2013 crash and three-day coma. It also shows his return six years later to complete the same jump, followed by a series of ski BASE firsts in the Mont Blanc massif that led to the Aiguille du Plan.

"That 2011 jump changed my life," Giraud said. At 43, he says everything before this line felt like training for it.

Footage spans the original HD HERO to the new MISSION 1 PRO

"The Line Above" is a GoPro and Thule production. Stefan Laude of Fresh Films directed it and wrote it with Giraud. Footage comes from GoPro cameras ranging from the original HD HERO to the current lineup, including the HERO13 Black, MAX2 and the new MISSION 1 PRO.

Rick Loughery, GoPro's Senior Vice President of Global Marketing & Digital Commerce, said few athletes have pushed GoPro cameras further than Giraud has over the past 16 years.

GoPro Snow has another series coming with Freeride World Tour

The series follows last winter's "Off the Record," which went behind the scenes of the 2026 Freeride World Tour season. GoPro, the tour's official camera, will partner with Freeride World Tour by Peak Performance on a new series coming soon.
