New Surfboard Leash Design Aims to Cut Drag and End Tangles

San Clemente, Calif. – September 18, 2026 -- A California inventor has developed a new surfboard leash designed to reduce drag and increase speed while riding waves.

The Spyder Leash targets a common surfing annoyance

The inventor, based in San Clemente, Calif., created the product to give surfers a leash that is both convenient and user-friendly. According to the inventor, the design helps eliminate tangles and prevents surfers from accidentally stepping on the leash while riding.

Compact storage sets the design apart

The leash also allows for neat storage when not in use, protecting it from damage between sessions. The invention features a compact, easy-to-use design intended to appeal to surfers looking for a hassle-free accessory.

The concept is now open for licensing

The original design was submitted to the Orange County sales office of InventHelp and is currently available for licensing or sale to manufacturers and marketers.
