Fountain Valley – October 14, 2026 -- Strava users logged 19,959,136 miles in Hyundai's Miles for the Warriors Challenge, and Hyundai will donate a total of $3 million to Hyundai Hope on Wheels, which funds childhood cancer research.
The mileage goal was doubled, then smashed
The challenge started with a 400,000-mile target and a $1 million donation commitment from Hyundai. Participants hit that mark within the first 24 hours. Hyundai then doubled the goal to 800,000 miles and its pledge to $2 million. The community passed the new target two days later, and Hyundai added another $1 million in recognition of the record-setting result.
The numbers behind the effort
- 19,959,136 miles and 16,683,314,348 steps logged
- 2,690,842 activities completed over 2,192,114 hours of movement
- A median distance of 74.65 miles per athlete
- Activity split: 48.41% running, 30.05% walking, 19.20% biking and 2.34% swimming
More than 150,000 people joined on Strava. Influencers, athletes, Strava motivators, artists and Hyundai ambassadors helped spread the word, and the campaign reached nearly 2.6 million people across social media and the Strava app.
Part of a larger campaign
The challenge grew out of The Mark of a Warrior, Hyundai Motor America's national campaign supporting Hyundai Hope on Wheels, developed with the agency INNOCEAN USA. It cites the statistic that a child is diagnosed with cancer every 36 minutes in the United States. Hyundai's chief marketing officer for Hyundai Motor America, Sean Gilpin, said the company is proud to contribute $3 million to advance pediatric cancer research.
The wider campaign includes a 60-second film called "Little Warrior" and more than 6,000 armor-inspired Warrior Gowns, made with Brave Gowns, for children in cancer treatment. It also features Warrior Rallies at select professional football games, soccer matches and other live events, about 42 handprint ceremonies and check presentations, and more than 100 community blood drives.
You can still add to the donation
The Strava challenge has ended, but people can keep contributing by posting or commenting on @HyundaiUSA social media posts with #HyundaiWarriors. Hyundai will donate $36 to Hyundai Hope on Wheels for each qualifying participant, up to $500,000, through Dec. 31, 2026.
