ATLANTA – October 29, 2026 -- Tickets for the first three Sumo Championship League (SCL) events of 2027 start at $19 and go on sale at noon ET on November 11.
Three arenas open the 2027 season
The league's opening schedule starts on Jan. 9 at Mullett Arena at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona. It continues on Feb. 13 at Curtis Culwell Center in Garland, Texas, and on March 6 at accesso ShoWare Center in Kent, Washington. SCL describes the stops as Phoenix, Dallas and Seattle-area markets.
Nine more events for the 2027 season are in active negotiation. SCL says it will announce them in the coming months.
Austin kicked off the league's first season
SCL held its inaugural event in Austin and launched its first season in October 2026. Stops in Chicago and Ontario, California, were announced earlier.
The 2027 roster features more than 50 athletes from four continents. According to SCL, sumo is practiced in more than 80 countries, and the U.S. has over 40 amateur sumo clubs.
Every bout feeds a season-long ranking
Results from each event count toward the Sumo Power Rankings. Those standings lead to the SCL Annual Championship in late 2027, so fans can follow rivalries from city to city.
The league pitches the events as a family outing, with parents and grandparents bringing children. Chairman and CEO Stuart Snyder said the aim is an experience for everyone in the building, "from eight years old to eighty."
Tickets start at $19 for all three events
SCL says it is keeping prices fan-friendly throughout 2027 so more families can attend, whether they follow sumo closely or are seeing a bout for the first time. Snyder said the league wants curious families to feel they are getting the best value they have had from a live event.
Sales for the Tempe, Garland and Kent events open at noon ET on November 11 on the league's schedule page.
