Berlin -- September 10, 2026 -- Midea used IFA 2026 to showcase a new lineup of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems built around the natural refrigerant R290, part of what the company calls its 'Green Vision, Blue Future' push.
Midea has sold more than 10 million R290 air conditioners since 2018
R290 carries an ultra-low global warming potential, near-zero CO2 emissions, no PFAS chemicals, and roughly 10% higher energy efficiency than standard refrigerants. Midea says the 10 million-plus units sold since 2018 have cut carbon emissions by about 5.2 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent, a reduction the company compares to the carbon absorption of 6.2 million hectares of Amazon rainforest. A transparent demo unit at the booth let visitors watch the compressor technology operate live.
The H-Pack heat pump skips the outdoor unit entirely
Developed by Midea's European R&D team, the indoor-only H-Pack eliminates outdoor installation, addressing noise, space and construction constraints for homeowners. Remote diagnostics let technicians flag and fix issues without a site visit, and the system runs in either hybrid or fully electric heating mode. Midea also displayed its PortaSplit unit, built for easy installation and low noise, which is slated to switch to R290 refrigerant in 2027.
VitaBreeze won the IFA 2026 Technology Innovation Award
Ralph Kobsik, CEO of Midea Europe GmbH, accepted the award for VitaBreeze, a smart airflow system using 'AirGrid' technology to map room layouts and let users direct airflow visually via smartphone. Presence detection routes air toward or away from people based on preference, while the new Breezeless Pro technology expands airflow coverage by 30% for draft-free cooling without sacrificing output. Additional features include 'ClimaBalance' humidity control and ECOMASTER 2.0 predictive energy optimization.
Raynor Pro heats homes down to -40°C
Targeted at Nordic climates, the Raynor Pro maintains full heating output at -25°C and achieves A+++ energy efficiency for both heating and cooling. The unit, designed by Midea's Milan design team, also won an iF Design Award. Rounding out the lineup, the MHELIOS home energy management system was demonstrated in a residential setting, optimizing energy storage and consumption around dynamic electricity pricing. MHELIOS integrates EV chargers, heat pumps, solar systems and battery storage, and aligns with Section 14a of Germany's Energy Industry Act (EnWG) to maximize clean energy use while preserving household comfort.
