Charlotte, N.C. – October 06, 2026 -- Cirba Solutions has launched the Battery Smarts Quiz, a free 10-question online tool designed to help everyday consumers learn how to charge, store and dispose of lithium batteries safely.
The average American owns 11 lithium-powered devices but little safety training
Cirba Solutions, which describes itself as the leading battery recycling materials and management company in North America, built the quiz around gaps identified in its own consumer research. The launch coincides with Fire Prevention Week (Oct. 4-10), hosted annually by the National Fire Protection Association, whose 2026 theme focuses on safe charging habits.
91 percent of Americans say they'd recycle batteries if it were easier
The quiz expands on findings from Cirba Solutions' study, "The Missing Link: Consumer Awareness in the Battery Life Cycle," a follow-up to 2024 research. That study found 91 percent of Americans would recycle their lithium batteries if the process were as simple as throwing them in the trash, but most don't know how or where to do it.
Ten questions cover charging, warning signs and disposal
The quiz walks users through choosing the right charger, picking safe charging locations for phones, laptops, e-bikes and e-scooters, knowing when to unplug a device, recognizing warning signs like heat or swelling, and understanding safe disposal and recycling steps. Each answer comes with a brief explanation.
"Our research told us exactly where the knowledge gaps are, so we built the quiz around them," said Karen Gay, Community Engagement Manager at Cirba Solutions. She said the goal was to make it feel like a shareable challenge rather than a lecture, citing simple habits like charging an e-bike away from a front door or taping battery terminals before recycling.
Results range from "Champion Charger" to "Reset Required"
Participants receive a score category at the end, along with a shareable result card for social media. The quiz builds on Cirba Solutions' existing #BatterySmarts social series and falls under the company's SustainABILITY 10,000 initiative, a commitment to 10,000 hours of community engagement and education across North America.
