Fort Lauderdale, Fla. – October 07, 2026 -- Atlas Ocean Voyages has announced its 2028/29 Antarctica season, adding 25 yacht-style expeditions that sail from October 2028 through March 2029.
Drake Fly & Sail departures double from two to four trips
The company's popular Drake Fly & Sail program, which pairs a sea crossing of the Drake Passage with a private charter flight for the return leg, expands from two departures in 2027/28 to four nine-night voyages in the new season. Atlas also continues its seven-night Drake Express trips, which fly guests across the Drake Passage in both directions for six full days exploring the Antarctic Peninsula, alongside nine-night Antarctic Discovery voyages that make the classic roundtrip sea crossing.
An 18-night Grand Antarctica trip departs January 7, 2029
For travelers wanting a longer polar journey, two 12-night Crossing the Antarctic Circle expeditions will sail south of 66°33' South, including seven expedition days in Antarctica's remote waterways. The 18-night Grand Antarctica expedition combines the Antarctic Peninsula, South Georgia's king penguin colonies and the Falkland Islands' birdlife in a single itinerary. Select departures also fall on Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's and Valentine's Day.
A November 16, 2028 sailing marks a 100-year aviation anniversary
On November 16, 1928, Sir Hubert Wilkins and Carl Ben Eielson flew the first powered flight over Antarctica from Deception Island. Atlas will mark the exact centennial with its Antarctic Discovery expedition departing November 16, 2028. Each Atlas Polar Expedition includes a multidisciplinary team of up to 17 experts, guided shore landings, Zodiac safaris and the Polar Plunge, with sea kayaking and camping offered on select sailings.
