LISBON – October 29, 2026 -- A seven-day cycling trip through Portugal's Alentejo region has won Gold in the Tour Operators, Overall category at the 2026 Travel Weekly Magellan Awards. Operator Live Love Ride also took Silver in Tour Operators, Service, for its "Alentejo Cycling Experience: A Boutique Slow Travel Journey in Portugal."
The route starts in a medieval hilltop village
The Alentejo Heritage & Wine Country Bike Tour begins in Marvão. Cyclists then pass through cork oak forests, olive groves and vineyards, with stops in Castelo de Vide, Estremoz, Monsaraz and Évora.
Daily rides cover roughly 45 to 80 kilometers. Each day is paired with Alentejo cuisine and wines, distinctive accommodations, local producers and cultural experiences.
Locals who grew up in the Alentejo design and run the trip
Members of the team that designs and operates the journey were born and raised in the region. Founder Pedro Rocha says that gives guests "a way into the inner circle," from the best coffee stops to the roads with the best views.
Rocha said the Silver for service matters as much to the company as the Gold. In his words, the landscape draws visitors, but the team, guides and local partners make the trip memorable.
Travelers can ride self-guided, with a private guide or in a group
The experience is available as a self-guided journey, a privately guided tour or on selected scheduled group departures.
