Tokyo – September 16, 2026 -- Keio Plaza Hotel Tokyo has finalized its lineup of drop-in cultural workshops running from September through December 2026, letting guests craft their own souvenirs on-site without a reservation.
The program includes flower arranging inspired by the mid-autumn full moon and tsumami-zaiku ornamental hairpins
Sessions take place regularly in the Lobby on the 3rd floor of the hotel's Main Tower, part of a series called "Journey into Japan: A Workshop of Cultural Discovery." Each monthly workshop is led by Japanese artists and tied to a seasonal theme, giving participants a finished piece to take home.
Roughly 80-90% of the hotel's guests are inbound international travelers
The hotel, located in Tokyo's central business district, designed the program around that visitor base, allowing same-day, casual participation described as "drop-in-anytime." Past participants have said the experience was convenient because it happened inside the hotel itself, with some making handcrafted items as gifts for friends rather than just for themselves.
Guests can also learn to write their names in Japanese kanji as part of their artwork
One participant said learning to inscribe their name in kanji on a finished piece was a highlight of the workshop. The hotel frames the sessions as a way for visitors to encounter what it calls "Japanese culture in the present age," connecting seasonal traditions with modern craft techniques.
Keio Plaza Hotel says the goal is for guests to keep the objects they create as mementos they can revisit after returning home.
