Garmin's New $799 Golf Watch Tracks Your Swing and Heart Rate

Garmin's New $799 Golf Watch Tracks Your Swing and Heart Rate

Olathe, Kan. – October 06, 2026 -- Garmin has launched the Approach S72, a new flagship golf smartwatch priced starting at $799.99, combining swing analytics with everyday health tracking.

The watch reads greens and tracks swing mechanics

Available in 43mm and 47mm sizes with AMOLED displays, the Approach S72 adds on-wrist swing metrics including hand speed, backswing length and wrist rotation, letting golfers adjust technique based on data rather than feel. With an active Garmin Golf Membership, the watch also offers green reading on select courses, showing putt break direction and average slope percentage to help golfers find their aim point.

Real-time heart rate ties biometrics to scoring

The device records real-time heart rate during rounds, allowing players to review afterward how their heart rate may have influenced their score. Garmin notes this feature is not intended for medical diagnosis or monitoring.

Additional course tools include driving range activity logging that feeds into the Garmin Connect app, putting analytics covering speed bias, direction bias and make rate, and aerial imagery of holes to help plan shot placement -- the latter two also requiring a Garmin Golf Membership.

Build includes titanium, sapphire and a built-in speaker

The watch features a titanium bezel, sapphire lens and a new lightweight ComfortFit fabric band. It is Garmin's first golf smartwatch with a speaker and microphone, enabling phone calls and voice commands on and off the course. A built-in flashlight offers variable white light intensities plus a red light setting.

Battery lasts up to 20 hours during play

Garmin states the larger model delivers up to 20 hours of battery life with GPS active during a round, stretching to 16 days with GPS turned off. The smartwatch also includes wrist-based heart rate, stress tracking, Body Battery energy monitoring, advanced sleep monitoring, and preloaded activity profiles for strength and mobility work.

Susan Lyman, Garmin's Vice President of Consumer Sales and Marketing, said the device is designed to give golfers the insights needed to take their game to the next level while functioning as a full-time smartwatch.

The Approach S72 is available now.
