Therapist Challenges $6.8 Trillion Wellness Industry With New 'Inner Nurturing' Book

San Francisco – September 15, 2026 -- Licensed marriage and family therapist Manami Yamamoto has announced a new book, 'Truly Be Well: Nurturing True Wellness from Within,' currently in development, built around a framework she calls Inner Nurturing.

The global wellness industry has crossed $6.8 trillion, yet stress and disconnection persist

Yamamoto points to that gap as the reason she developed her framework. She argues that most wellness products and mental health campaigns focus on symptom relief rather than building lasting inner capacity.

Yamamoto's framework centers on four capacities: awareness, compassion, resilience, and connection

Inner Nurturing sits within a broader philosophy Yamamoto calls Humanology, which she developed through clinical practice and cross-cultural work spanning Eastern and Western societies. "True wellness is not created by simply fixing what is wrong with us. It grows when we nurture the human capacities that already exist within us, our awareness, compassion, resilience, and ability to connect," she said.

She runs two nonprofits serving underserved communities in the U.S. and Japan

Yamamoto is the founder and president of nonprofit organizations operating on both sides of the Pacific, focused on communities facing geographic distance, economic constraints, cultural stigma, and language barriers to mental health care. Her clinical methods extend beyond talk therapy to include Expressive Arts Therapy, somatic practices, and nonverbal approaches.

Her work has been featured by Authority Magazine and Rich Woman Magazine

Recent recognitions include a Global Woman of the Year Top 100 Finalist honor in 2025, the Fluxx Awards Mental Health Global Pioneer Award for Innovation Across Borders, the Fluxx Awards Community Centered Wellness Leader honor, inclusion in Who's Who in America (2025), and The Book of Legacy (2026).

The upcoming book will expand Humanology and Inner Nurturing into what Yamamoto describes as a universal framework, aiming to shift mental health literature away from symptom checklists toward the ongoing cultivation of inner wellness.
