New York – September 22, 2026 -- J.Crew is celebrating the 40th anniversary of its Barn Jacket by photographing 160 people across five U.S. cities and launching a new 2026 collection priced from $98 to $898.
The brand shot 160 people in five cities for the campaign
Photographer Robert Nethery captured subjects in New York City, Los Angeles, Austin, Boston and Chicago in intimate portraits. The cast mixes open-cast discoveries with athletes, artists, musicians and designers, including names like Spike Lee, Chance the Rapper, Scottie Pippen, Bowen Yang, Jenny Slate and Dave Franco.
Each portrait shows a different way of wearing the same jacket. Julia Collier, Chief Marketing Officer of J.Crew, said the 160 participants across five cities demonstrate how one design takes on a different life depending on who wears it, adding that the jacket has moved across wardrobes and generations for 40 years without being tied to one moment.
The Barn Jacket debuted in 1986 and still anchors J.Crew's lineup
First introduced by J.Crew in 1986, the jacket has stayed a fixture of the brand's American sportswear identity for four decades. Olympia Gayot, Creative Director of Women's and Kids at J.Crew, said the jacket's timeless shape can read as polished, rugged, feminine, oversized or unexpected depending on styling.
A new 29-style collection arrives across women's, men's and kids' lines
The 2026 Barn Jacket collection includes 29 styles spanning signature cotton canvas along with new fabrications, finishes and embellished versions. Prices range from $98 to $898, and the collection is available at jcrew.com and in select J.Crew stores.
The campaign follows J.Crew's fall 2025 launch of The Next Rollneck Generation, part of a broader effort to turn its heritage styles into ongoing storytelling platforms. Collective films accompanying the Barn Jacket campaign feature cast members discussing personal style and how the jacket fits into the character of each city.
