Arm & Hammer's Baking Soda Rocket Day Returns, Reaching 200,000+ Students

Ewing Township, N.J. – October 07, 2026 -- Arm & Hammer Baking Soda is holding its third annual Baking Soda Rocket Day on October 8, a nationwide hands-on STEAM event that has reached more than 200,000 students since launching in 2024.

The program combines classroom resources, baking soda rocket launches and in-person events designed to connect science lessons to real career paths for young learners.

Flagship events land in Chicago and Houston with aerospace guests

In Chicago, aerospace engineer and Emmy-nominated TV host Emily Calandrelli will lead students at Shoop Academy of Math, Science and Technology through an interactive rocket experiment for her third consecutive year with the program.

In Houston, Arm & Hammer is partnering with Space Center Houston, where retired astronaut Michael Baker, who flew four space missions, will share firsthand stories about careers in the space industry.

Project managers and a Master Model Builder from LEGOLAND California and LEGOLAND Florida Resorts, who worked on the new indoor coaster Galacticoaster, will also join both flagship celebrations to show students how engineering and creativity translate into real jobs.

Student artwork will fly aboard a future Blue Origin mission

Through a continued partnership with Club for the Future, students will create postcards and posters as part of the Message to the Stars campaign. The artwork will travel aboard a future Blue Origin New Glenn mission, get stamped "Flown to Space," and be returned to the students who made it.

"Every piece of art we send to space carries more than a student's message; it carries the possibility that the young person who created it might one day be part of the team launching it there," said Heather Nelson, director of Club for the Future.

Classrooms nationwide can build rockets using household materials

Outside the flagship cities, students and educators can take part using Arm & Hammer Baking Soda and other common household items to build and launch their own baking soda bottle rockets, exploring the chemistry behind the reaction from home or the classroom.

Parents and educators can find event details and classroom resources at BakingSodaRocket.com.
