Dyson's New Toothbrush Has a Built-In Camera to Find Plaque

Paris – September 07, 2026 -- Dyson has unveiled the CameraJet, a toothbrush with a built-in camera designed to locate gaps between teeth and clean them with a targeted jet of mouthwash. The company says it is the first brush of its kind to combine camera-guided detection with precision fluid dynamics, and it goes on sale September 1, 2026, priced at 479 euros.

A tiny camera tracks gaps between teeth in real time

A 100,000-pixel macro lens camera scans the mouth during brushing, using a machine-learning system Dyson calls Gap Optical Targeting. The algorithm processes 28 live images per second to detect, track, and predict interdental gaps, then fires a cone-shaped mouthwash jet at the identified spot within 100 milliseconds. Dyson says the system runs on 16 million lines of code and was trained on 470,000 images of teeth.

Nine in ten people skip flossing regularly, Dyson's research found

According to Dyson's 2017 study on oral care habits, nine out of ten people don't floss consistently, and the average brushing time is 45 seconds against the recommended two minutes. The World Health Organization's Global Oral Health Status Report 2025 estimates 3.7 billion people worldwide suffer from oral disease, a condition increasingly linked to heart disease and Alzheimer's.

The jet is cone-shaped, not needle-shaped, to dislodge plaque more effectively

Dyson's fluid dynamics engineers spent years refining the spray profile, working with the Faculty of Dentistry at the National University of Singapore over a five-year collaboration to build a synthetic plaque model for testing. The company says needle-shaped jets used in conventional water flossers can pierce plaque without loosening its grip, while its wider, cone-shaped spray covers more surface area at lower pressure, aiming to protect gums and enamel.

A gravity-defying reservoir keeps the jet working at any angle

The 12.5-ml mouthwash reservoir uses a membrane pump and pressure chamber designed to deliver uninterrupted jets whether the brush is held upright, tilted, or horizontal -- a scenario common when cleaning the inner surfaces of teeth.

The brush head uses dual bristles and an RFID chip to track wear

Firmer inner bristles target surface stains while softer outer bristles clean the gumline; Dyson says its variable sonic motion, which continuously changes angle, removes up to 69 percent more plaque in hard-to-reach areas than leading premium electric toothbrushes in external testing. An RFID tag in the brush head monitors usage and alerts users when it needs replacing.

The camera feed streams live to a smartphone app, but nothing is stored

CameraJet connects via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth to the MyDyson app, letting users view a live endoscope-style feed of their teeth, track brushing coverage, and get personalized feedback. Dyson says no images are recorded or saved on the device or in the cloud.

The full system -- the CameraJet brush, charging dock, travel case, and Dyson-branded toothpaste and mouthwash -- launches in Ultra Blue and Ceramic Pink through Dyson stores and select retailers.
