Subaru Trailseeker EV Lands on Wards 10 Best Engines List

Camden, N.J. – October 13, 2026 -- The all-electric 2027 Subaru Trailseeker, on sale now from $39,995 MSRP, has been named to the 2026 Wards 10 Best Engines & Propulsion Systems list in its first year on the market.

WardsAuto judges evaluated 26 powertrains this year, including returning winners and all-new or significantly updated cars, trucks and SUVs. Criteria included power, torque, refinement, efficiency and innovation. The judges praised the Trailseeker for smooth operation, range, available power and acceleration.

Judges call the Trailseeker a 'sleeper' that hits like a muscle car

Robin Warner, WardsAuto judge and program manager for the 10 Best Engines & Propulsion Systems list, said the SUV looks unassuming but powers through traffic like a muscle car. He added that its range estimates hold up well in real-world driving, including on the interstate, and that Subaru keeps the price reasonable for the capability.

Dual motors deliver 375 horsepower and 281 miles of range

The Trailseeker is a rugged electric SUV that arrived in early 2026. Every trim level comes standard with these features:

  • Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive
  • 375 combined horsepower from dual electric motors
  • 8.5 inches of ground clearance
  • Up to 281 miles of range on a single charge
  • A 14-inch Subaru Multimedia System
A 74.7-kWh battery charges from 10% to 80% in 28 minutes

The 2027 Trailseeker uses a 74.7-kWh lithium-ion battery. On a DC fast charger delivering up to 150 kW, it can charge from 10% to 80% in as little as 28 minutes.

A standard North American Charging Standard (NACS) port opens access to more than 25,000 charging stations across North America.

Battery preconditioning keeps cold-weather charging speeds near normal

An onboard preconditioning system warms the battery before charging. It activates when the driver navigates to a charging destination, or through touchscreen controls. Subaru says the Trailseeker can charge in temperatures as low as 14 degrees Fahrenheit at speeds comparable to those in normal weather.
