Hockey Fans Get a Dance Challenge to Cut Cancer Risk

Bonn -- From November 1, 2026, German ice hockey fans can learn a simple dance routine, film themselves and share it online as part of a nationwide Move-Challenge from Deutsche Krebshilfe (German Cancer Aid) and the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (PENNY DEL).

The challenge runs from opening day to World Cancer Day

The campaign starts with a league-wide action matchday on November 1, 2026. It continues until World Cancer Day on February 4, 2027. Players of the league demonstrate the choreography in stadiums and on the online and social media channels of the partners and clubs.

Anyone can join in, whether alone, with friends or family, at a club or at a game. Participants record their own video and post it on social media with the hashtag #Eishockeymaus.

The Bonn band Druckluft rewrote its hit for the rink

The routine is set to music by the Bonn band Druckluft, which reworked its song "Karnevalsmaus" into "Eishockeymaus" for the campaign. The band, its songwriter and Sony Music support the non-profit initiative.

Small changes in daily activity are the point

Regular physical activity strengthens the heart, circulation and metabolism. It also helps prevent cancer, and an active lifestyle can lower the risk of certain types of the disease. Alongside the challenge, Deutsche Krebshilfe provides information on how movement contributes to prevention and how to fit more of it into everyday life.

Gerd Nettekoven, board member of Deutsche Krebshilfe, stressed that the goal is not athletic peak performance. Even low-threshold activity can matter for health, he said, as long as people move regularly. DEL managing director Gernot Tripcke said the league wants its players to show that exercise is fun and easy to build into daily routines.
