SHERIDAN, WYOMING – November 5, 2024 – In a move that could have significant implications for the fitness industry, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has filed a lawsuit against LA Fitness, the nation's largest gym chain, alleging violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The lawsuit, filed in the Central District of California, accuses LA Fitness of failing to provide equal access to its facilities and equipment for members with disabilities.

According to the DOJ, LA Fitness has been neglecting to maintain essential equipment like pool lifts and elevators, creating significant barriers for members who rely on them. The lawsuit cites the case of "Patron A," a woman with multiple sclerosis who has experienced inoperable pool lifts at her local LA Fitness.
