Nominations Open for 19th Annual Military Child of the Year Award

San Antonio – September 07, 2026 -- Operation Homefront has opened nominations for its 19th annual Military Child of the Year Award, with submissions accepted through December 1, 2026, for teens who will each receive $10,000, a laptop, and additional gifts if selected.

Seven Winners Represent Every Branch of the Military

The award recognizes one recipient from each of seven branches — Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, Coast Guard, and National Guard. Eligible nominees must be between 13 and 18 years old and legal dependents of a service member or military retiree, demonstrating excellence in academics, civic leadership, volunteerism, athletics, or the arts.

WDR's Maus Launches Multilingual School-Start Guide and New Morning Radio Show

Cologne – September 7, 2026 -- Roughly 170,000 children in North Rhine-Westphalia are starting school this year, and German broadcaster WDR is rolling out a package of free educational content through its long-running children's brand "Die Maus" to help them adjust.

The Maus website offers school-starter materials in six languages

Parents and teachers can access craft activities, puzzles, coloring pages, and ABC letter-learning films on the Maus website in German, Turkish, Polish, Ukrainian, Arabic, and Russian. A feature called "Maus-Schul-Weltreise" shows how children attend school in other countries, while a series of factual segments answers everyday questions about school life.

Smithsonian Launches 'On Air' Video Series for Middle School Classrooms

Washington – September 07, 2026 -- The Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum has launched "On Air," a free educational video series aimed at students in grades five through eight.

Monthly video collections cover a rotating set of aerospace topics

Each month during the school year, the museum releases a new collection built around a single theme. Confirmed topics for the 2026–2027 school year include weather in September, the solar system in October, art in November, air ships in February, moons in March, and comets and meteors in April.

Every collection contains four videos, each under 10 minutes, plus an educator guide with classroom resources, student activities and full lesson plans.

Massage Envy Hands Out Five More $2,500 Scholarships

SHERIDAN, WYOMING -- August 28, 2026 -- Massage Envy named five massage therapy students as its July 2026 scholarship recipients on Thursday, each receiving $2,500 toward their education. The Scottsdale, Arizona-based franchisor picks five winners every month through its National Scholarship Sweepstakes, a program running continuously since 2022. The July recipients are Haley S., Auriel B., Yesenia V., Jingmin H. and Thanyaporn G. None of them are required to work at a Massage Envy location after graduation.
