Munich/Vienna – October 29, 2026 -- Shoppers in Germany and Austria can now ask an AI chatbot where to find nearby supermarket deals and whether a price is actually good. The feature, called "Frag den Guru" ("Ask the Guru"), is built into the free marktguru app for Android and iOS.
Chatbot opens with one tap and accepts text, voice or photos
A blue marktguru icon at the bottom right of the app opens the chat. Users can type a request or speak it. They can also upload a photo of their fridge contents or a handwritten shopping list to start the conversation.
From there, the chatbot picks out matching offers and links straight to the product or the relevant supermarket flyer. Suggestions follow the postcode saved in the app, so they reflect stores near the user.
Recipe ideas come with deals on missing ingredients
Anyone looking for cooking inspiration gets suggestions from the app's recipe collection. If an ingredient is missing, the chatbot shows current offers for it. It also reports running cashback promotions.
Receipts from users show what shoppers really paid
To judge whether a deal is worthwhile, the chatbot compares current offers with community prices. Each month, users upload about 500,000 receipts from Germany and 120,000 from Austria. That means the data covers prices people actually paid, not only advertised offers.
Patrick Dainese, founder and managing director of marktguru, said the focus is practical value: the AI is meant to make shopping planning noticeably easier.
Support questions and tickets are handled in the same chat
The chatbot also answers questions about the app itself, such as where to find a function or what validity and redemption terms apply to a cashback promotion. If a problem cannot be solved in the chat, users can create a ticket from there and get personal help from the support team.
