Applications for the two categories “Powder Brows” and “Volume Lips” can still be submitted by 31 January 2023

In 2023 BEAUTY DÜSSELDORF, the leading industry get-together for Cosmetics, Foot, Nail, Wellness and Spa, will see a new annual event for all PMU experts kick off: during the trade fair from 31 March to 2 April 2023 the “Permanent BEAUTY Masters” intend to captivate up-and-coming and professional permanent make-up artists as well as other interested parties with a mixture of championships, inspiring expert talks by top speakers from the PMU business and networking and entertainment elements for the first time now.

“By introducing the new “Permanent BEAUTY Masters” competition we give professional permanent make-up artists the opportunity to give proof of their skills in the presence of a larger expert audience,” says Hannes Niemann, Director of BEAUTY, and adds: “We are very pleased that we will be able to present an interesting portfolio specifically geared to the large PMU market at BEAUTY 2023 for the first time.”

“Permanent BEAUTY Masters” – the championship for natural permanent make-up

The permanent make-up championship is all about the “Elegant at the Beach” theme. Professional permanent make-up is characterised by the harmonious selection of shape and colour. This is why the two competition categories “Powder Brows” and “Volume Lips” place natural micro-pigmentation in line with the person’s type centre stage. The “Powder Brows” category here focuses on an airy styling in white, that perfectly stages the natural beauty of the eyebrows. The second category “Volume Lips” recognises soft and trendy lips that are eye-catchers without appearing “made artificially”.

To apply for one of the two categories a work sample with before-and-after photos and a brief video can be submitted by no later than 31 January 2023. Eligible for participation are persons of legal age having completed PMU training and with professional experience of at least one year. An expert jury will judge the submitted entries by February and nominate up to ten finalists in each category. At BEAUTY DÜSSELDORF the finalist will then be invited to demonstrate their skills live on the trade fair Saturday. The top three winners in both categories of the championship are in for attractive prizes. The formal Award Ceremony will take place on the stage of the “MEETING POINT” in Hall 10. In addition to the “Permanent BEAUTY Masters” both PMU professionals and beginners can look forward to an appealing series of lectures as part of the BEAUTY full SKIN stage in Hall 11.

The expert consultancy for the concept of the “Permanent BEAUTY Masters” as well as for putting together the PMU lecture series came care of Olga Hendricks of the OH-ACADEMY, who has been active in the beauty industry as an entrepreneur and trainer for over 20 years.

All details on submitting entries can be found at www.beauty-duesseldorf.com/pmu_2. Submissions will still be accepted by 31 January 2023.

Endurance training – What trainers should look for in intensity control

Endurance training – What trainers should look for in intensity control

Endurance training is a fundamental part of training for most people. However, training management – especially the choice of the right intensity – is often a “black box”. Qualified trainers should explain this to their clients and give them professional advice on how to train in a targeted manner using simple means.

Endurance training focuses on improving endurance, fatigue resistance and regeneration. Exercisers should be able to maintain the given load for as long as possible and recover quickly afterwards. Specific endurance training in fitness training is useful for all target groups. After all, how good one's endurance is becomes just as apparent when climbing up to the third floor as when running a half-marathon or completing several sets of squats.

Metabolic load in endurance training

Experience shows that weight reduction and improving general fitness are the dominant motives in health-oriented endurance training. In most cases, the training does not have a specific load requirement. Even though this approach can lead to success, it is important to have specific load targets in order to be able to make specific adaptations. In endurance training, metabolic stress plays a decisive role. Different load intensities influence the form of energy supply (aerobic vs. anaerobic) as well as the proportions of the different energy substrates (especially glucose vs. fatty acids).

Among other things, a higher metabolic demand is accompanied by an increase in lactate production (salt of lactic acid). If a lot of lactate is produced, the muscles can become over-acidic. This causes symptoms such as muscle pain or cramps. The differences in energy production are the main characteristics of different endurance training and their adaptation effects. Against this background, the classification of the different training ranges has become established.

In order to achieve a targeted metabolic demand, the intensity of the training is the decisive adjusting screw.

Intensity control in endurance training

Before a training plan can be set up, it must first be clarified what the reference value is for the load intensity. In strength training, for example, the one-repetition maximum (1-RM) or the multiple-repetition maximum (X-RM) are established as common reference values. In endurance training, on the other hand, intensity is often referred to as the percentage of maximum heart rate (HRmax). The actual HRmax, however, can only be determined through a workout. However, very few people fulfil the necessary health requirements for an endurance test. Another possibility is to determine the maximum heart rate using the rule of thumb (220 – age). However, this pragmatic alternative is quite imprecise because the heart rate can vary greatly even among people of the same age. In addition, it has been shown that when training at a certain fixed percentage of HRmax, there are significant differences in lactate production and metabolic stress.

Intensity specifications based on maximum heart rate can therefore clearly miss their purpose of achieving a certain training range. Nevertheless, intensity data is important because it provides a rough guide and can be easily measured using a heart rate monitor or fitness tracker. However, there are other options that trainers can use to guide intensity.

Determining training intensity based on performance

The following option for intensity control is primarily aimed at ambitious recreational athletes who have the health requirements for maximum exertion. The training range is based on the best time over a certain distance. 70 percent of the average speed of a ten-kilometre best time corresponds to the speed of a basic endurance training. For a maximum run over ten kilometres, the energy supply must physiologically take place in the upper range of the aerobic-anaerobic transition. A slower running speed therefore also leads to an increased aerobic energy supply.

Intensity control with the help of the subjective feeling of exertion

The Borg scale is the most common way to measure the subjective feeling of exertion. The exerciser assigns the load a value from six (“very, very easy”) to 20 (“very, very hard”). When using subjective scales, it is important that trainers provide clear and descriptive reference points. A person who is just starting endurance training should perceive the effort of training as slightly higher compared to a brisk walk.

Inexperienced people in particular need regular, objective feedback. In addition to the subjective perception of exertion, trainers should also take into account the heart rate, the performance achieved and their own experience.

In this context, coaches can also consult the Talk Test as a tool. This test is based on the physiological mechanism in which talking is only possible to a limited extent in the anaerobic metabolic range. Although this approach may seem very trivial and imprecise at first, numerous studies have shown that training ranges at different performance levels can be precisely targeted by means of the Talk Test.

Conclusion

During endurance training, the intensity is often only controlled intuitively. However, individual intensity control can create targeted training effects. There are many ways to control the intensity of the load. Although the maximum heart rate serves as a rough guide, it must be checked individually. With the help of the subjective load sensation and the talk test, trainers have additional tools to control the load and set individual intensity targets. This enables trainers to design endurance training in a much more targeted way and to provide qualitative training advice.

BEAUTY DÜSSELDORF 2023: Miriam Jacks to receive the “Golden Mask for Make-Up Artistry”

In 2023 the “Golden Mask for Make-Up Artistry” will go to Miriam Jacks, make-up artist, hair stylist, entrepreneur and founder as well as CEO of JACKS beauty line. Miriam Jacks toured all of Europe as a make-up artist, gave numerous celebrities a radiant appearance and was contracted as National Make-up Artist by L'Oréal Paris.

At a relatively young age, Miriam Jacks can already look back on a very eventful career in the beauty business. The 39-year-old saw a meteoric rise to the premier league of make-up artists and also went full steam ahead as an entrepreneur but she also got to know the downsides of this business in depth with one insolvency and two burn-outs. “These setbacks have made me stronger and I would have never become so successful with my beauty brand without these experiences. Failure is part of life, but you have to be able to get back to your feet again and believe in yourself,” says Miriam Jacks. With her brand JACKS beauty line, established in 2011, she made her final breakthrough during the Covid pandemic; with her make-up and skincare lines as well as hand-painted brushes, beauty bags and other accessories she has now broken the million mark in turnover.

Miriam Jacks was born in the Ruhr Valley and this region is especially known for its hard-working people. This mindset is the recurring theme throughout her life, although her work-life balance may have been lost somewhere along the way. Very early on young Miriam discovered her passion for make-up and acquired her first make-up experience in the theatre community. She grew up in a fashion family and got to soak up the fashion and beauty world almost on a daily basis. Aged 20 Miriam Jacks emigrated to Los Angeles and started her career as a make-up artist and hair stylist at the famous “Make-up Designory” School. Through her talent, inspiration and unbridled diligence, she quickly rose to fame and became one of the most sought-after make-up artists on the scene. “It’s wonderful to make your passion your profession and I am grateful for being allowed to express myself so creatively. Make-up is of enormous importance to our well-being and I have always enjoyed helping people to gain a more positive self-image,” says Miriam Jacks summing up.

After her adventure in the US, she returned to Germany and found her new home in Berlin. Miriam Jacks was determined to work as an entrepreneur in the beauty industry and founded concept stores around sustainable beauty care on a franchise basis. During this time, L'Oréal Paris hired Miriam Jacks as National Make-up Artist and, in passing, so to speak, she founded her own vegan brush collection JACKS beauty line due to an allergy to real-hair brushes.

The fast pace, the stress and the additional burden as a mother led to an insolvency as well as two burnouts. After a sorely needed time out and a new willingness to delegate tasks to team members, Miriam Jacks dedicated herself again to a project dear to her heart, the JACKS beauty line. With Lisa Buchholz as her partner, she repositioned the company according to her ideas and values and is living the dream of a sustainable value chain. “The beauty market is very crowded and opaque. We try to make it easier for women to enter the beauty world and develop easy-to-use products. From the outset our aim was to create a brand that gives women back the joy of make-up and at the same time scores points with sustainability, authenticity, transparency as well as professionalism,” says Jacks.

In the meantime, the Golden Mask for Make-Up Artistry winner is a mother of two and very happy with her life. “I am delighted at receiving this award and have worked hard for it for many years. This award is a great affirmation of my lifetime achievement so far. I am proud that we have been able to gain a foothold in the beauty industry with our company and set new impulses.”

Messe Düsseldorf and KRYOLAN Professional Make-up present the “Golden Mask for Make-Up Artistry” to make-up artists for extraordinary creativity, expertise and special commitment to the make-up artist’s profession as part of BEAUTY DÜSSELDORF. The award ceremony will be held at the Meeting Point in Hall 10 on Saturday, 1st April 2023.

Thermal bridges stopped cold New fischer insulation fixing TermoZ CS II

Submitted by J. Mikhail on
Thermal bridges stopped cold New fischer insulation fixing TermoZ CS II

SHERIDAN, WYOMING – September 25, 2025 – The fixing specialist fischer now offers the new TermoZ CS II screw fixing to anchor ETICS insulation panels made of any kind of material including fire bars into any conventional construction material. This enables simple, time-saving screw mounting with minimal thermal bridges.

Considerable efforts must be made in the building sector in order to attain climate goals by 2030. There is still tremendous potential for saving energy that lies dormant in existing buildings. Facade insulation is a highly effective measure to increase energy efficiency in this regard. But in order to be able to fulfil their function, external thermal insulation composite systems (ETICS) must be professionally installed. Securely anchoring the insulating layer in the anchor substrate with as few thermal bridges as possible is of key importance. The new fischer TermoZ CS II fixing is made for this task.

The latest addition to fischer’s range of ETICS fastenings is multitalented, as it is suitable for fastening insulating panels in any conventional material and thickness on all standard solid and hollow construction materials. The ETICS fixing therefore doesn't need to be replaced if the facade is equipped with various insulating materials such as a fire bar, which saves additional time. Its approval for every building material class (A, B, C, D, E) guarantees its secure application. fischer’s TermoZ CS II is therefore also suitable for subsequent insulation on renovated buildings if there is uncertainty about their anchor substrate. Further advantages include the fact that any improper use caused by unsuitable insulation fixings is prevented and users can make do with a single ETICS fixing even if the building has various substrates. The European Technical Assessment (ETA-14/0372) regulates the use of the TermoZ CS II in concrete, masonry (solid and perforated brick), lightweight aggregate concrete and aerated concrete. Thanks to its anchor sleeve with a symmetric expansion zone, the newcomer is the first insulation fixing with an approval for hammer-drilled holes in vertically perforated bricks. The special geometry below the plate (Fibonacci) reduces the required insertion torque for convenient and fast installation. Its upper side features a specialist surface structure for better adhesion to plaster. The closed plate does not allow any dirt to be ejected, providing a clean setting result.

The screw fixing consists of a polypropylene anchor sleeve with a diameter of 8 mm as well as an insulation plate (various diameters) made of glass-fibre reinforced polyamide. The fixing is fastened by inserting the special compound screw made of zinc-plated steel and glass-fibre reinforced polyamide. While the screw is inserted, the anchor sleeve expands to provide a firm anchoring in the substrate. Because the screw is thermally isolated, thermal bridges are minimised so that there is no need for a sealing plug.

Users can opt between flush and countersunk installation. The information provided on the fixing concerning the required total drill hole depth including the insulating material is particularly user-friendly for both types of installation. The necessary bit is indicated on the screw head, which minimises improper use. fischer’s setting tool CS can also be used for both types of installation. Depending on the application, it is simply rotated by 180 degrees. The setting tool features a hexagonal adapter while a separate tool with an SDS adapter is available for use with a hammer drill. The screw fixing is inserted into the drill hole through the insulation before it is screwed in until the plate sits flush on the surface of the insulation. The special geometry of the underhead plate reduces the necessary insertion torque during countersunk installation for convenient and quicky installation. To ensure it sits flush, the screw fixing is subsequently covered by a round cap which fischer also offers as a system component. This allows an even plaster layer to be applied without the plug showing through. The TermoZ CS II DT 110V variant with a large plug plate is particularly well suited for soft insulation materials and can be used exclusively for flush countersunk mounting. Its thin plate edge provides an ideal fit against the insulation panel and allows thin reinforcement layers to be applied.

With its new TermoZ CS II screw fixing, fischer offers system providers a universal insulation fixing that hardly, if at all, impairs the energy efficiency of ETICS and also enables efficient work and rapid construction progress.

Strong and sustainable construction helpers fischer universal mortar marketing campaign

SHERIDAN, WYOMING – September 25, 2025 – fischer's injection mortars offer maximum performance even under extreme conditions, whether it be fastenings in masonry or concrete, on large construction sites or DIY projects, in the blazing sun or in heavy rain. Comprehensive advertising materials from an ongoing marketing campaign for both chemical fixing solutions, FIS V Plus and FIS V Zero, highlight the above.

‘Built for a strong future,’ it says on the advertisement for the FIS V Plus, the strongest universal mortar by the fischer Group of Companies, which offers advantages with comprehensive approvals and many potential applications. The chemical fixing can be used for all purposes and has an assessed (ETA) service life of 100 years in concrete. There’s also its bond strength in concrete, which is up to 45 per cent higher in the fixing specialist's latest generation of universal mortars than in predecessor products, providing maximum safety for an entire century.

The FIS V Zero’s slogan is ‘built for a green future’. With its innovative, special formula, the fischer injection mortar offers maximum safety for people and nature. The chemical fixing solution meets maximum occupational health and safety requirements and is classified as “label-free" in accordance with the CLP Regulation. The FIS V Zero is approved for fastenings in cracked and non-cracked concrete, masonry as well as post-installed rebar connections. The campaign's video shows a tradesman who pulls up his sleeves and dives into the world of fischer’s universal mortars. Using both injection mortars combined with other fixing solutions by fischer, he goes through the products’ various potential uses which involves working on the construction phase with masonry and anchorages with a low edge spacing, fastening steel structures and installing indoor fitness machines. At the end of the clip, the universal mortars FIS V Plus and FIS V Zero feature in the spotlight along with the message saying that they will accompany users into a strong and sustainable future.

fischer is using the film and the advertising material on its online and social media channels as well as classic print media. Retailers are also being provided with attention-grabbing point of sale materials such as floor displays, shelf stoppers and floor stickers. The current campaign’s objective is to interact with the target group, generate project leads and ultimately make the target group enthusiastic about using our chemical fastenings. The marketing campaign focuses on the advantages of the individual products and conveying these to retailers and end users on specially designed landing pages. Both universal mortars therefore have tailored marketing materials that highlight their advantages. The long-term aim is to establish new distribution partnerships, leading to further increases in turnover and cooperation on new projects.

SHERIDAN, WYOMING – September 25, 2025 – Objects in a wall cupboard can be a challenge, depending on your height. Especially if items are placed in the back. With the innovation VS TOP® Down, this has now come to an end. The system sets a new standard in the ergonomically difficult-to-access wall cupboard area! The VS TOP® Down is easy to retrofit and is suitable for wall cupboards with hinged doors as well as with fold-in fittings. In daily use, the shelf can be optimised at any time: The manual spring force adjustment ensures a consistently damped lowering movement. VS WASH: sort, stow, transport

SHERIDAN, WYOMING – September 25, 2025 – Regardless of whether the washing machine is in the cellar, the utility room, the kitchen or the bathroom - collecting and transporting dirty laundry is a special challenge in every household. Finding sufficient and suitable space for this is an important part of comfortable living space design in everyday life. The VS WASH is the clean solution for dirty laundry. Making optimum use of existing space, facilitating workflows in the kitchen and utility room, continuing the high design standards inside the furniture - these are the foundations of Vauth-Sagel's success. Every product developed by the family business must be measured against these requirements. The well thought-out VS WASH system takes these everyday necessities into account. Vauth-Sagel is going full steam ahead into the USA!

Vauth-Sagel is going full steam ahead into the USA!

SHERIDAN, WYOMING – September 25, 2025 – Erkeln, 22 August 2022 – Vauth-Sagel relies on North America. There, the company is to be represented at the largest trade fair for woodworking technology and design again this year. The International Woodworking Fair® (IWF) is taking place from 23 – 26 August 2022 in the World Congress Center Atlanta, Georgia. The USA is considered to be one of the most important strategic focus markets. Particular attention is paid to products that meet the specific American requirements and take account of the desire for European design combined with US tradition.
At every trade fair, Vauth-Sagel focuses on product innovations across all living spaces – at the IWF, the focus is on Us-specific solutions in the kitchen area. The Vauth-Sagel designers and product developers have concentrated on the American requirements and needs. The desire, confirmed by recent studies, for European design, a classic look combined with German engineering, is satisfied by this completely new approach on the part of Vauth-Sagel.
“We have never before in the history of our company had such a presentation on North American soil,” says CEO Claus Sagel. “We are all greatly looking forward to presenting our innovations designed specifically for the US market. We are anticipating a high level of acceptance from the trade audience and great success for our “Made in Germany and the USA!” strategy,” continues Sagel.
“Platinum” and “Wood” – new benchmarks specifically for the USA
The company is going to surprise the visitors to the IWF with a series of real highlights for the American market. On the basis of the three design lines “Saphir”, “Scalea” and “Planero”, two innovations in particular are to be presented: the new colour variant “Platinum” is a powder-coated surface that is reminiscent of chrome in terms of its degree of gloss, but is a resource-saving alternative to chrome-plating due to the sustainable technology, as it completely dispenses with the use of solvents. At the IWF, Platinum will be presented for the first time and launched onto the American market. The first releases from the new design line “Wood” are also to be presented. It is a homage to the traditional American kitchen interior with a continuous wood look, in which the technology takes a back seat visually. The maple and birch plywoods used are given an optical finish in a warm bronze colour. This underlines the new Vauth- Sagel USA strategy. After the IWF, the company is planning to expand its portfolio.
Additional highlights – VS TOP® Down and VS WASH
Vauth-Sagel is also going to enhance its presentation with two additional highlights: VS TOP® Down helps people to reach the contents of a wall cupboard effortlessly without having to stand on tiptoe. The unique drop-down fitting sets standards for ergonomic storage space optimisation in the wall cupboard. VS TOP® Down is easy to retrofit and is suitable for wall cupboards with hinged doors as those well as with fold- in fittings. In daily use, the shelf can be optimised at any time: the manual spring force adjustment ensures a consistently damped lowering movement. VS TOP® Down thus enriches functionality in the kitchen and contributes towards an optimisation of the urban living space.
VS WASH is the clean solution for dirty laundry. Because with this laundry system, laundry can be sorted neatly, stowed away and transported – completely invisibly. The new laundry bins - in a unique variety of types - have openings to ensure optimum air circulation. The perforations are also rounded to the inside of the containers - this makes a unique contribution towards protecting the laundry. Thanks to the carrying handle, getting to the washing machine is also easier than ever – even with both laundry bins at once. The hidden drop integrates perfectly into any living space. In terms of its technology and appearance, VS WASH is based on the tried-and-tested waste separation systems of the VS ENVI category.
Services specifically for America
Another innovation is the sophisticated area relating to all the services for the dealers, processors and partners in the USA. For example, digital tools have been developed for every product, which make it much easier to handle the Vauth-Sagel developments, from the inspiration and the planning aids to the packaging and performance. This new quality and service approach is also to be an example for other markets in the world in the future. A highly effective sales partner is also available in the USA in the form of the company Würth.

To sum up: all the Vauth-Sagel innovations combine the clearly defined requirement for modularisation and consistent collection development for the American market.

EUROBIKE supports visitors on E-bikes

EUROBIKE supports visitors on E-bikes

Frankfurt a/M will host the global largest e-bike event in mid-July.

Frankfurt a/M will host the global largest e-bike event in mid-July. It is expected, that many visitors will use electric bicycles on their way to the show. For the first time at Eurobike, they will not need to care about the battery capacity for the route back home.

In the central bicycle parking for Eurobike Expo at Portalhaus will be installed a charging hub capable to serve 80 e-bikes at once. Probably the largest implementation of it kind so far. Charging technology is delivered by Powerbox.one - the charging infrastructure start-up firm from Prague/Czechia.

E-bike owners don´t need to carry their home charger, may they have a battery with a suitable charging connector. Eight most common types of charging cables will be available at the parking spot (for details follow this link). For e-bikers who will carry their own home charger, Powerbox protected 230V socket can be used and the charger locked into the box.

Trained staff will help users to plug the bikes and lock them to a professional bicycle stand. Further questions on out-of-home charging standards will be happily answered at Powerbox stand in the Start-up zone - Hall 8 (stand A50).
