Submitted by J. Mikhail on

The latest consumer and product trends, innovations and start-up pitches enhance the industry-oriented exhibitor offer on-site

In just a few weeks it is finally time again: The international sweets and snacks industry will finally meet up again at the Cologne fair grounds from 30 January to 2 February 2022 after a two-year break. With around 1,200 exhibitors from more than 60 countries registered to-date, ISM offers a good starting position for a re-start in January. With the safety and hygiene concept #B-SAFE4business and admission being exclusively granted to people recovered from, vaccinated against COVID or who are in possession of a negative test CH3CK the leading global trade fair for sweets and snacks ensures the highest degree of safety for the participating companies and visitors.

"As the leading industry meeting point, our top priority is to ensure that the re-start is as safe as possible for the industry. At the same time, we want to set new accents with new themes in the scope of our event and congress programme. Lectures by experts, special events, start-up pitches and award ceremonies are just a few of the highlights the visitors can look forward to at ISM," explained Sabine Schommer, Director ISM.

New Product Showcase
The New Product Showcase has established itself at ISM as an appealing attraction and as the key location for innovations. The trade visitors can examine the new products of 2022 in the many display windows of the special "New Product Showcase" exhibition in the new Hall 1. In addition, the three most innovative products of ISM 2022 that were distinguished during the ISM Night will be presented here.

Not only the contents, also the packaging play an important role: The ISM Packaging Award powered by ProSweets Cologne will be awarded for the most innovative form of packaging.

Trend Court
The Trend Court@ISM in Hall 5.2. is dedicated to the theme trends within the sweets industry. Different accents will be set in the three sections. New product trends and developments within the industry will be presented on a special area under the theme "Sweet Trends presented by Innova Market Insights". Beyond this, Innova Market Insights and Euromonitor International will be organising trend presentations several times a day in the scope of the Expert Stage. The Expert Stage is additionally the place for an exchange of knowledge and information and is the joint lecture stage of ISM and the co-located ProSweets Cologne. Key industry themes will be discussed every day from Sunday to Wednesday. The lectures will also be available via the digital format ISM & ProSweets Cologne @home.

The complete programme of the Expert Stage can be viewed at a glance on the ISM website.

What's more, around 20 companies that were founded no longer than five years ago, will present their innovations and new concepts in the Trend Court@ISM in the Start-up Area in Hall 5.2. The Start-up area is located in the Trend Section of Hall 5.2 and is the initial port-of-call for innovations. All of the start-ups additionally have the opportunity to present themselves in the scope of a start-up pitch. These will take place on the Expert Stage in Hall 5.2 on Tuesday morning.

New: Specialised trade section "Finest Creations - hand-crafted"
As a conceptual innovation there is going to be a specialised trade section focusing on the small volume business with sweets and snacks for the first time at ISM 2022, which is entitled "Finest Creations - hand-crafted". This exhibition section unites craft establishments, whose visitor target group comprises of confectioners, cake shops and specialised sweet shops. The new exhibition section will also be located in Hall 5.2.

#CONNECT2030 in transition – The Future Summit for Sweets and Snacks
In the scope of the future congress #CONNECT2030, ISM is placing the focus worldwide on the future of the sweets and snacks industry and will provide an overview of what is going to be possible in 2030. The congress addresses suppliers, manufacturers and the trade in equal measures. The congress will focus on the following issues: Where is the journey headed? What developments await us? And which challenges will this bring with it?

In their keynote speech entitled "Future Sweets - What and how will we eat in 2030?", Hon. Prof. Dr. Sascha Peters and Diana Drewes from the Berlin-based future agency for materials and technology, Haute Innovation, will speak about sustainable solutions for sweets with high nutritional values, recyclable packaging and future raw materials.

In the subsequent panel discussion, further experts from the food industry will discuss topics like:

  • Saving resources: Ideas for the sustainable extraction and handling of raw materials in the sweets industry
  • CO² reduction and ideas for climate-friendly action
  • Developments revolving around the theme "Zero Food Waste"
  • What effect will the climate change have on the availability of raw materials?

The Congress is being staged on Tuesday, 1 February 2022, on the Expert Stage in Hall 5.2 as well as in digital format in the scope of ISM & ProSweets Cologne @home.

ISM Award goes to Luigi Zàini

Submitted by J. Mikhail on

An Italian sweets manufacturer receives the prize for the first time

Luigi Zàini, CEO of the medium-sized Italian sweets company, Luigi Zàini S.p.A., is the winner of this year's ISM Award. The largest and most important trade fair for sweets and snacks worldwide is conferring this prize to the executive director of an Italian sweets company for his exceptional services to the sweets and snacks industry for the first time.

Luigi Zàini S.p.A. produces and sells cocoa and sugar-based products. The sales network of the Zàini products covers the whole of Italy and they are exported to over 80 countries worldwide. The company employs a headcount of around 200 people in the three Milan-based production sites and at the logistic platform in Pavia.

With his sister Antonella Zàini, Luigi Zàini runs the company today in the meanwhile third generation. Luigi Zàini S.p.A. has exhibited at every edition of ISM since its premiere in 1971.

Luigi Zàini is delighted at winning the ISM Award:  "I am literally thrilled at receiving this distinction, which is an honour for the company, for my sister and for me personally. My thoughts go immediately to all of the people who have been working for Zàini for generations and who together with our business partners have significantly contributed towards the company's success story. I would like to dedicate this prize to all of these people!"

The road to success
Founded in 1913, Luigi Zàini S.p.A. stands for a hundred years of tradition. From the very start diversity has been one of the guiding principles of the company. The founder, Luigi Zàini, already asked himself back then: "All people are different, so why don't we create different chocolate and sweets for everyone?"

Ever since, Zàini products have come in different shapes and colours, packed in elegant boxes or colourful, retro-look tins. Over the course of time, sugar-free versions or chocolate fruits have been added to the range of traditional Italians products.

The “Line Emilia”, extra-dark block chocolate, is the special gem of the sweets company. It stands out with its valuable recipe, which has remained unchanged over the years and which is above all used today for the production of chocolate desserts. The dark block chocolate was named after the nanny of the Zàini sons in the 1950s, who enabled their mother to go back to work full time after the early death of Luigi Zàini.

At the time, Olga Zàini was one of the few business women in the industry. Her innovative visions have shaped the company long-term: Equality is still an important and non-negotiable corporate value at Zàini S.P.A. today.

The award winner is also well-known for his child-friendly chocolate. By producing chocolate eggs filled with collectable toys of the most important licenses loved by children. Finally, further products, such as cocoa products and spreads containing cereals low in sugar and fats turn Zàini into a "hidden champion" in the battle to create the most innovative sweets for children.

Since 2019, Zàini has been asserting itself for women and for the equality of the sexes on the Ivory Coast: In collaboration with Cocoa Horizons, the company supports the sustainable cultivation of high-quality cocoa in order to enable the people in the region better living conditions, and specifically to the women thanks also to a project focused on a female entrepreneurial activity.

The presentation of the ISM Award will take place during the festive ISM dinner on 30 January 2022. Dr. Massimo Garavaglia, CEO of the De' Longhi Group, will hold the laudation.

The jury of the ISM Award is composed of international representatives from the industry, trade and world of science.

Koelnmesse is the organiser of ISM and its industry sponsor is the International Sweets and Biscuits Fair (AISM) Task Force.

ISM and ProSweets Cologne taking off in 2022

Submitted by J. Mikhail on

Exhibitors and industry sponsors are showing great commitment

ISM and the co-located supplier fair ProSweets Cologne are under starter's orders and will open their doors on 30 January 2022. A few weeks before the opening of the fair, with current registration figures of around 1,200 exhibitors from over 60 countries, the leading trade fair for sweets and snacks is looking optimistically ahead to the upcoming 2022 event. With around 230 exhibitors, ProSweets Cologne also boasts a very good booking situation. In total, the trade fair duo will cover exhibition space spanning 139,000 square metres.

Furthermore, 26 country pavilions have registered from over 20 countries. Most of which boast stand sizes that are comparable to the previous years. Registrations from many start-ups and newcomers also underline how important ISM is for the sweets and snacks market. We are also noting a positive development on the buyer side too after receiving many registrations from important trade buyers including Aldi, Catz BV, Edeka, Galeria Markthalle, Gebr. Heinemann, Hagen Grote, Kaufland, Metro, REWE, Spar and Suntjen.

"With the support of the national and international exhibitors, our long-standing partner associations and important buyers, we are offering an excellent starting point for the re-start of both trade fairs. After a two-year break, it is important that in the scope of ISM we finally offer our exhibiting companies a global platform again so they can present their new products and important future trends. Beyond this, we also know from discussions with significant industry representatives that getting together face-to-face is essential for the business of the participating companies," explained Gerald Böse, President and Chief Executive Officer of Koelnmesse GmbH.

Important exhibitors and the industry sponsors of the trade fair are also showing great commitment to ISM: In their capacity as a business meeting point, trend or innovation platform, both trade fairs have key importance for the sweets and snacks industry particularly in these ongoing challenging times. In addition, the new hybrid format with the new digital platform, ISM & ProSweets @home, particularly offers those industry players, who are not able to attend the trade fairs live, the opportunity to come into contact with business partners, discover new products and engage in intensive networking.

The long-standing exhibitor Lambertz is also looking forward to the trade fair in 2022. "ISM is the largest and most important sweets trade fair in the world. It offers the ideal forum to present product ranges, concepts and philosophies on the product world of sweets to distributors from all over the globe. Beyond this it is a platform for encounters between manufacturers, distributors, agencies and consultants of the sweets industry. Nothing can replace this personal exchange of experiences and it is something that simply can't be reproduced virtually. At the start of next year I think it is going to be particularly important to set the signal that a normal business life based on face-to-face encounters can and has to take place again. We can rest assured that Koelnmesse will take all necessary precautions so that ISM can be staged in a Corona-conform way," explained Dr. Hermann Bühlbecker, sole shareholder of the Lambertz group.

With its tried and trusted safety and hygiene concept, #B-SAFE4business, ISM, ensures the highest degree of safety and grants access to people, who have been vaccinated against, recovered from or who have tested negative for COVID-19. Moreover, with its new hall layout, which among others includes wider aisles of at least 5 metres, ISM will have no problem making sure the minimum distances are observed at all times.

ISM 2022: 360 degree trade fair experience

Submitted by J. Mikhail on

ISM & ProSweets @home is opening up new opportunities for both exhibitors and visitors

After a successful Anuga, the leading global trade fair for food and beverages, the motto for the trade fair duo, ISM and ProSweets Cologne, is now also "Always on": In the scope of the new digital platform, ISM & ProSweets @home, Koelnmesse is ensuring that all relevant players of both industries can not only network at the fair grounds, but also digitally and remain up-to-date on current themes. The exhibitors will benefit from the chance to access new target groups and present their solutions to an even broader public. The visitors can go live any time or call up content precisely then when they have the time. In addition, the digital components also offer those people, who cannot participate on-site, a new form of participation without missing out on the trade fair altogether. The platform is available to the exhibitors and visitors from 01.-02.02.2022. The physical trade fair already commences on 31.01.2022.

Exhibitors with a stand in Cologne are also represented with a digital presence without exception. An interactive exhibitor profile with contact data and product information provides a fast overview.  Thanks to the "Talk-to-me" function, a spontaneous exchange between exhibitors and visitors is just as simple as visiting an exhibition stand. Appointments can of course also be arranged for a later point in time. The exhibitors can simply list the availability of the contact partners. Companies can also offer exclusive events: Digital Conference Rooms enable presentations, tastings, show cooking or PR events upon invitation.

The digital stages offer a programme comprising of many hours
In addition to the information offer at the digital exhibition stands of the exhibitors, the stages are the focal point of ISM & ProSweets @home. Trend lectures, trade information and start-up pitches will take place on the Expert Stage. At the Global Competence in Food Stage the visitors will receive information from the Koelnmesse Food network as well as market research results and sweet trends from all over the globe. The manufacturers will present their products and solutions in the form of short lectures on the Product Stages. All presentations will subsequently be available on demand up until 30 April 2022, which will further extend the reach of the trade fair.

Networking at a new level
Make new contacts and maintain existing relationships: The Communication Centre is the communicative control centre of ISM & ProSweets @home. The visualisation in the Discovery Graph shows the participants directly which exhibitors and visitors they are already virtually connected to. The "Contact of contacts" function as well as numerous filters make searching for new interesting business partners and potential business contacts easy. Audio, video and text chats, arranging appointments, messaging and screen sharing options, exchanging or downloading contact details and the incorporation of the social network accounts of XING and LinkedIn complete the range of communication tools for the exhibitors and visitors.

ISM & ProSweets @home goes live on 01.02.2022. Access to ISM & ProSweets @home is already included in all trade visitor admission tickets. Trade visitors, who are not able to travel to Cologne, have the opportunity to take part in the trade fair in a purely digital form via ISM & ProSweets @home.

Taking off again in physical form

ISM will physically take off again in its full scope. Around 80 percent of the exhibition space is currently already booked. As usual, the event and congress programme offers insights into the trends and developments of the sweets and snacks industry. Alongside the ISM Expert Stage, the platform for consumer and product trends, the New Product Showcase, awaits the visitors again, which with its trendsetting function for the industry will present the most innovative products of ISM 2022. The trade programme is rounded off by the future congress #CONNECT2030 in transition, which is being organised in collaboration with ProSweets Cologne. Here, renowned experts will discuss what shape the future of the sweets and snacks industry will take on. The focus lies on the following topics:

  • Saving resources: Ideas for the sustainable handling of raw materials in the sweets production section
  • CO² reduction and ideas for climate-friendly action
  • Developments revolving around the theme "Zero Food Waste" ("Too good to go", etc.)
  • What effect will the climate change have on the availability of raw materials?

As usual, ProSweets Cologne, the international supplier trade fair for sweets and snacks, is being staged parallel.

ISM 2021 elects top innovations of the New Product Showcase

Submitted by J. Mikhail on

The winners are Confiserie Burg Lauenstein from Germany, Selectum from Austria and Francois Doucet from France

The New Product Showcase has been the central platform for the industry's new products since 2009 and has established itself as an appealing attraction for all decision-makers at ISM. Normally, the largest trade fair for sweets and snacks in the world presents the new products to the visitors in a high-calibre special exhibition during the trade fair. This year, ISM opted for a digital edition of the New Product Showcase due to the cancellation of the trade fair.

"For ISM, the New Product Showcase is an important medium for making the high number of innovations transparent to the trade audience. With no physical trade fair taking place, it was important to us to support the industry with the business platform ISM as a stage for presenting their new products. We are delighted that with 70 exhibitors from 20 nations and in total 110 products, the digital response was very high. This underlines the innovative power of the industry and how much it needs ISM as an industry platform for sweets and snacks," explained Oliver Frese, Chief Operating Officer of Koelnmesse.

As was the case in the past years, the top innovations were selected by an independent jury of experts from the industry, trade and field of science.

The top 3 innovations of ISM in 2021 are:

1. Confiserie Burg Lauenstein GmbH with the Lauensteiner® tea leaf tin from Germany

2. Selectum GmbH with the Paddies Cheesetastic from Austria

3. Francois Doucet with KARA Fruity from France

First place went to the "Lauensteiner® Tea Leaf Tin", which combines tea and chocolate with each other masterfully. According to the jury, true chocolate perfectionists were at work here. That alone would have been prize-worthy, but the packaging and overall contents also stand for high quality. Unanimously - something that doesn't happen all that often - the jury was convinced that the winner is not just a chocolatey highlight for tea lovers. The Lauenstein chocolate-makers have optimally selected nine well-known tea combinations to match the different types of chocolate. Confiserie Burg Lauenstein has succeeded in capturing and combining the finest tee aromas with the chocolate in a very well-balanced manner. An exceptional idea in top chocolate quality, very well implemented in terms of taste, elaborately and elegantly packed. Courage that was rewarded with the first prize.
For further details see: https://bit.ly/2Nhl5c4

Second place this year went to the "Paddies Cheestastic", that impress as cream-filled, tender crunchy pastry puffs filled with a fine cheesy cream. The jury came to an agreement fast here, they really are cheesetastic. They don't shed crumbs, don't make a mess and are crispy light. The product is flaky and tender, can be easily crushed with the tongue only to be rewarded with the full-bodied, creamy Cheddar cheese filling. For the jury a cutting-edge, practical, to-go micro snack that is rich in protein as well as being gluten and palm oil-free. Furthermore, the Paddies are baked using the trend ingredient chickpea flour and the latest induction technology without being deep-fried and are 100 percent CO² emission-free.
For further details see: https://bit.ly/3rIkXky

"KARA Fruit Taste", the tenderly coated crunchy cereals covered in the finest fruit chocolate convinced the jury with its top confectionery quality and fruity, crispy-light combination of different ingredients and ultimately claimed third place. A delicate shell made of the finest fruit chocolate conceals a core comprising of gluten-free, crunchy cereals. People, who are looking for a light summer snack, but who don't want to do without chocolate, can fall back on the KARA crispy chocolate balls during the hot months too. Passion fruit, lime, banana or raspberry enter a wonderful, fruity liaison with fine, tenderly melting white chocolate - typically French. In addition to this the product excels due to its high quality, distinct fruity taste without artificial flavours and is additionally gluten-free, fruity & crunchy, as well as perfectly crafted. Thanks to its small size it makes the ideal light, yet chocolatey in-between meal snack.

The winners of the New Product Showcase will additionally be presented in the scope of the New Product Showcase Film https://bit.ly/3vWpB1d. Beyond this, in addition to the top 3 innovations, all further new products from the New Product Showcase will be presented on the social media channels of ISM. Keep an eye on your blood pressure and heart rhythm with the new BC 51 wrist blood pressure monitor

Submitted by J. Mikhail on
Keep an eye on your blood pressure and heart rhythm with the new BC 51 wrist blood pressure monitor

According to the German Hypertension Society, high blood pressure is the number one risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. In Germany, roughly one in three adults experiences hypertension – amongst those over 70, this is actually three in four people. One difficulty is that hypertension is generally not recognisable through specific symptoms. Therefore, regular self-monitoring is recommended. Beurer has added a new wrist blood pressure monitor with innovative functions for precise measurement to its range.

The new BC 51 enables optimal self-monitoring when measuring blood pressure at home. The instrument has a positioning indicator which ensures precision and reliable results. During the blood pressure measurement, a green or red colour marking indicates whether the measurement is being carried out correctly on the wrist at heart level. This allows the user to have their arm in the right position from the start of the measurement and achieve accurate results. Thanks to the Beurer inflation technology, measurement is quick and convenient during inflation. The risk indicator, a coloured scale for classifying measurements, helps the user interpret their measurements. The practical XL display makes it easy to read the blood pressure value immediately after the measurement. The device features two user memories for 120 measured values each. Likewise, the average value of all saved measurements, as well as the average value for the morning and evening blood pressure from the last seven days, can be displayed, facilitating long-term monitoring. Arrhythmia detection also identifies possible irregularities in heart rhythm. The BC 51's measurement accuracy has been clinically validated by the European Society of Hypertension (ESH).

Blood pressure and ECG: Complete heart health check with the new BM 96 Cardio

Submitted by J. Mikhail on
Blood pressure and ECG: Complete heart health check with the new BM 96 Cardio

Cardiovascular diseases are among the most common causes of death. What is dangerous is that the symptoms of high blood pressure or cardiac arrhythmia often go unnoticed for a long time. This makes regular monitoring of vital signs all the more important since cardiac arrhythmia, such as the feared atrial fibrillation, can be a sign of serious cardiovascular disease. With the new BM 96 Cardio, blood pressure and heart rhythm – the two most important parameters of heart health – can be checked at the push of a button. The practical 2-in-1 device makes it possible to measure the values at home and is suitable for reliable long-term observation.

The BM 96 Cardio measures blood pressure and pulse values through a fully automatic measurement on the upper arm. The universal cuff is suitable for upper arm circumferences of 22-42 cm. The device checks that the cuff is in the right position to ensure proper positioning. Inflation technology offers maximum convenience as the measurement is carried out practically and quickly through gentle pressure build-up while the cuff is being inflated. The integrated risk indicator helps the user interpret the results and the patented resting indicator guarantees precise measurement values. A symbol display helps avoid measurement errors due to insufficient calmness of the circulatory system. The BM 96 Cardio calculates the average value of all saved measurements and the average value of the morning and evening blood pressure measurements from the last seven days. The advanced arrhythmia detection also warns the user of atrial fibrillation – an important sign for the prevention of strokes but one which is often not recognised as a warning signal by those affected at all or too late due to the unspecific symptoms.

Keep an eye on your heart's health: ECG function for reliable monitoring
The BM 96 Cardio cannot only measure blood pressure, it also has a 1-channel ECG function. An ECG stick can be used to record heart rhythm over 30-120 seconds and to create an electrocardiogram (ECG). This enables changes in heart rhythm to be detected early and further examinations to be carried out by a doctor.

The BM 96 Cardio is multifunctional. There are three different measurement methods for the ECG analysis: right index finger-chest, left index finger-chest and left hand-right hand. The most suitable procedure for each individual user depends on the application-specific heart configuration (shape of the heart). After the measurement, the ECG stick can be easily stored in the practical recess on the device. The medical device has two user memories for 60 measurement values each and can be operated intuitively via four sensor touch buttons. All results are easy to read on the illuminated white XL display. The recorded data can also be transferred directly to the "beurer HealthManager" app or the new "beurer HealthManager Pro" app via Bluetooth® – perfect for long-term monitoring or the next doctor's appointment.

MEDICA 2021 + COMPAMED 2021: Holding these trade fairs in-person has brought them back to life, with innovations galore and programme highlights

Submitted by J. Mikhail on
Medica 2021

In the coming week, all of the big decision makers and professional experts from the international healthcare industry will finally be making their way to Düsseldorf once more. The world-leading medical trade fair MEDICA and COMPAMED, the leading international supplier trade fair, will relaunch in-person then. From Monday to Thursday (15 to 18 November), MEDICA’s 2,900 exhibitors and COMPAMED’s 490 exhibitors will arrive from a total of 70 countries and fly their flags in the trade fair halls. Their custom solutions for modern outpatient and inpatient treatment, increased digitalisation of the care processes and reliable partnerships from service providers and suppliers to prevent delivery and supply bottlenecks, all oriented around the COVID-19 pandemic, have grabbed more attention than ever before.

“The booking figures are encouraging, and were hardly expected to be at this level in spring. With the exception of two halls, the entire trade fair premises has been booked out again - naturally, we have introduced a hall plan that aims to keep everyone safe during the pandemic. The development for the start-ups is extremely pleasing. Thanks to rapid decision processes, they appear to have returned to normality in no time at all. 40 start-ups are taking part in the MEDICA START-UP PARK in Hall 12, which is more than ever before”, states Michael Degen, Executive Director of Messe Düsseldorf, reporting on the optimistic mood and vitality that are returning to the industry.

The countries that generally asked for the largest areas before the pandemic are, once again, represented in full force at MEDICA. Italy, South Korea, Turkey, the USA and other European nations, such as France, Spain, Great Britain and Poland, are all high on the list behind Germany. Pauline Kao, Consul General for the U.S. Consulate General in Düsseldorf, puts the reason for MEDICA’s international prominence in a nutshell, using the US’s participation as an example: “MEDICA is the most important trade fair in the world for medical devices and the USA is proud to be a perennial, strong partner to it. For over 40 years, our exporters of medical products have been attending MEDICA to present new technology and sell their products on the global market.”

The German service providers, including Marcus Kuhlmann, Leader for Medical Technology in the SPECTARIS German Industry Association, are also relieved that they can finally hit the ground running again at the in-person MEDICA event, after MEDICA was held entirely digitally last year due to the pandemic. “In order to shape the health market of tomorrow together, with innovative ideas and concepts, we need a strong industry network within the medical technology sector. Personal dialogue remains irreplaceable, even in this era of digital transformation, and our members are really looking forward to it after a pandemic that has lasted one and a half years. We are therefore even more delighted than usual to attend MEDICA and COMPAMED live on-site this year, and obtain new stimuli for the medical technology industry.”

Innovation for outpatient and inpatient care

The themed segments of MEDICA are based around meeting the entire range of needs for inpatient and outpatient care. The MEDICA segments are: Lab technology & diagnostics, electrotherapy and medical technology, disposables and consumables, information and communication technology (digital health) and physiotherapy and orthopaedic technology. Fittingly, the exhibitors at COMPAMED (held in Halls 13 and 14 this year) will showcase the entire range of products and services that the supplier market provides for medical technology: from individual components and parts, along with innovative materials, to packaging solutions and high-tech processes such as additive manufacturing or complete contract manufacturing.

A cutting-edge robotic device (from H-Robotics) for training wrist and ankle movement, whose function is based on the principles behind the E-bike, will be one of this year’s novel products. Its precise assist-as-needed control enables the patient to get the most out of their activities by providing them with the exact support they need during movement, and no more. With telemedical software and a smartphone connection, rehabilitation programmes can also be followed at home under remote supervision using this device. The Fraunhofer Project Center for Stem Cell Process Engineering will premiere its process for mass production of stem cells to a global audience. Background information: With the help of cultured stem cells, new medications for conditions that have been incurable up until now, such as Alzheimer’s disease, can be created in the future. However, the consequence is that mass manufacturing of stem cells under high industrial quality standards is required for this. The Rollingpillow, brought out by the same company, may be less high-tech but still has a certain appeal. This is a novel cushion with a roll-and-rock mechanism (which is semicircular) that automatically corrects the body’s posture during sleep and prevents tension.

Programme highlights live on-site and online

The significant industry trends and themes, such as an increased demand for digital healthcare solutions or the challenges that service providers face in conjunction with the new EU Medical Device Regulation (MDR), are reflected in the range of products and services that the exhibitors offer and also in the programmes of the forums and accompanying conferences that are integrated into the trade fairs. In line with the hybrid event concept, the lectures, discussions and award ceremonies for many of these programme features can be followed either on-site at the forums’ stages in the trade fair halls or online via a live stream, accessible via the industry portals MEDICA.de and COMPAMED.de, depending on the preferences of the ticket holder.

This also applies for the MEDICA CONNECTED HEALTHCARE FORUM (including the MEDICA Start-up COMPETITION and the Healthcare Innovation World Cup), the MEDICA HEALTH IT FORUM and the MEDICA LABMED FORUM, among others. The COMPAMED HIGH-TECH FORUM by IVAM (the International Microtechnology Business Network) and the COMPAMED SUPPLIERS’ FORUM by DeviceMed are special COMPAMED highlights.

Further highlights of MEDICA 2021’s programme include the 44th German Hospital Conference (as a live stream) and the English language conferences DiMiMED and MEDICA MEDICINE + SPORTS CONFERENCE. These conferences will gather together experts in the fields of military and disaster medicine and in sports medicine and science at the venue in Düsseldorf.

MEDICA and COMPAMED can be visited from 10 am to 6 pm on any day of the trade fair. All visitors and exhibitors must comply with the the 3G rule (they must be vaccinated, recovered or tested: this is what the three Gs stand for in German) in order to enter the trade fair premises. Tickets can only be purchased via the online ticket shop.
