Cold Weather Cuts E-Scooter Range by 12%, Not 50%, Data Shows

MONTREAL – October 30, 2026 -- An electric scooter that covers 25 miles (40 km) on a mild day will go about 22 miles (35 km) at 32°F (0°C), according to Apollo Scooters. The company analyzed 512,359 rides on 8,449 scooters, and the roughly 12% loss it found is well below the 20 to 50% figure often cited online.

Range loss builds gradually as temperatures fall

Apollo tagged each ride with the local air temperature and compared it with the same scooter at 68°F (20°C). The loss grows in steps rather than dropping off a cliff:

  • About 5% at 50°F (10°C)
  • About 10% at 41°F (5°C)
  • About 12% at 32°F (0°C)
  • About 13% at 20°F (-7°C)

Bigger batteries did not change the picture. Every Apollo model, from 540 Wh to 1,800 Wh, lost 10 to 15% near freezing.

Midterms and Your Retirement: Review Savings Before You Buy Gold

West Palm Beach – October 30, 2026 -- American Independence Gold, a veteran-owned precious-metals company, is urging retirees and near-retirees to review their savings before the midterm elections, rather than rushing into gold or silver.

Election night will end, but household expenses will not. The company's core question for savers is whether their mix of assets will meet their needs in the years ahead.

Election results have not moved gold in a consistent way

An October 22, 2026 World Gold Council report says U.S. election results have not had a consistent, clear effect on gold prices. Policies that follow and global demand can matter more.

Overseas buying is one example. CNBC reports that China imported more than 1,000 tonnes of gold in the first eight months of 2026, compared with 886 tonnes in all of 2025. China's central bank had also bought gold for 23 consecutive months, which CNBC links to efforts to diversify reserves.

WavKong V2700 Router Aims to Cover Big Homes With Fewer Nodes

New York – October 30, 2026 -- WavKong's V2700 Wi-Fi 6 router is now on sale through the company's website. In company testing, a single unit provided up to 15,000 square feet of combined indoor-outdoor coverage.

A custom chip targets distortion at the source

The V2700 is built around WavKong's proprietary RPU (Radio Processing Unit) chip, developed over six years. It brings digital predistortion into the 5 GHz radio path of a home router. Cellular base stations and satellite communications have long used the technique.

The problem it addresses: as a Wi-Fi power amplifier runs at higher output, nonlinear distortion degrades signal quality and limits the speeds devices can sustain at range. Predistortion compensates before transmission. In laboratory testing at 160 MHz channel bandwidth and 1024-QAM, it improved error vector magnitude from roughly -29.3 dB to -41.2 dB, a gain of more than 12 dB.

Root Canal or Extraction? What Decides Whether a Tooth Can Be Saved

Dacula, Ga. – October 30, 2026 -- A root canal can remove infected tissue and keep your natural tooth, but only if enough healthy structure remains to support a lasting restoration, according to a HelloNation article featuring Dr. Carey Norton of Dacula Family Dentistry.

Removing infection is only half the decision

After a root canal, a tooth commonly needs a filling or dental crown. Enough solid tooth structure must remain above and below the gumline to hold that restoration in place.

Decay depth and cracks change the outcome

Deep decay may reach the pulp while leaving enough enamel and dentin for a crown. Decay that extends far below the gumline makes a secure restoration more difficult.

Some cracked teeth can be treated with a root canal and crown when the damage is limited. A vertical root fracture is a different problem: bacteria may keep entering the tissues around the root, which makes extraction more likely.
