Interior design firm CRÈME / Jun Aizaki Architecture & Design worked with LUCID, the design arm of Highgate Hotels, to reshape the guestrooms around their original scale and proportions. Willis Loughhead, General Manager of The Algonquin for six years, said the team aimed to honor the hotel's past "without being beholden to it," building timeless rooms meant to spark creativity.

Monterey Bay Aquarium Opens New Bilingual Exhibit Nov. 7

Monterey – September 11, 2026 -- Monterey Bay Aquarium opens a new bilingual exhibition, "Ocean in Motion / La Danza del Mar," to the public on Saturday, November 7. The exhibit is designed primarily for children ages 2 to 6, though it is open to visitors of all ages, and uses movement and role-play to build empathy for marine animals.

The exhibit features an expanded African penguin habitat as its centerpiece

Visitors can watch penguins dive, swim, preen, waddle, and rest on a rocky beach in the newly enlarged habitat. Nearby digital interactives project silhouettes of penguins in motion, inviting children to waddle, flap, and shake their tails. The Aquarium notes that African penguins are a critically endangered species affected by climate change and overfishing.

Five archival bears highlight the toy's worldwide reach

Steiff selected five discontinued collector's pieces to illustrate how different cultures have shaped the design of the teddy bear. The lineup includes the 2005 Carmen bear, inspired by Georges Bizet's opera, and the 2018 Great Escapes New York bear, modeled after the Statue of Liberty.

Also featured are the 2019 Great Escapes Edinburgh bear, dressed in a kilt with traditional Scottish design elements, the 2000 Tomato bear tied to Dutch heritage, and the 2025 Tang Dynasty Prosperous bear, drawing on Chinese imperial history. None of these five pieces remain commercially available.
