PEUGEOT 9X8 Qualifies Strong for the 6 Hours of São Paulo with Best Grid Positions Since 2023

PEUGEOT 9X8 Qualifies Strong for the 6 Hours of São Paulo with Best Grid Positions Since 2023
SHERIDAN, WYOMING – September 23, 2025 – Team Peugeot TotalEnergies achieved its best qualifying performance since early 2023, placing both PEUGEOT 9X8 Hypercars on the second and third rows of the grid for the Rolex 6 Hours of São Paulo, which took place on July 13.
Malthe Jakobsen Impressed in His First Ever WEC Qualifying

At just 21 years old, Danish driver Malthe Jakobsen took part in his first FIA World Endurance Championship qualifying session at Interlagos. Driving the PEUGEOT 9X8 #94, he delivered a standout performance by setting a lap time of 1:22.948, earning fourth position on the starting grid.

“It was my first qualifying session in WEC and I want to thank the team for trusting me and giving me a comfortable and competitive car. I really enjoyed both sessions—it was thrilling to push this Hypercar to the limit with low fuel to go for the best lap possible. Interlagos is a very short track, so it was tricky to get a clear lap in the first session. For Hyperpole, there were eight fewer cars, and I felt great in the car. We finished P4. I'm really satisfied—but the race will be long.”

Paul Di Resta Secured a Solid Sixth Place in Hyperpole

Paul Di Resta also delivered a strong qualifying performance with the PEUGEOT 9X8 #93. After posting a time of 1:23.269 in the initial qualifying, he went on to clock 1:23.101 in the Hyperpole session, securing sixth place on the grid.

“My first session went really well. I had some traffic—without it, maybe I could’ve gone for P1. That gave me confidence for the second session, although I had a bit of understeer. P4 and P6 is a great result for the team and should put us in the fight during the early part of the race. With only two drivers per car this weekend, it’s going to be a long and intense day tomorrow!.”

Peugeot Confirmed Its Competitive Edge Ahead of Race Day

The strong qualifying sessions followed three Free Practice runs focused on refining the PEUGEOT 9X8 setup for the resurfaced Interlagos circuit. The team’s performance raised hopes ahead of the race, as highlighted by Jean-Marc Finot, Senior VP of Stellantis Motorsport:

“Our drivers qualified both PEUGEOT 9X8s for Hyperpole, securing 4th and 6th positions. This is our best qualifying result so far—and it's also Malthe's very first qualifying run! Team Peugeot TotalEnergies puts its trust in young drivers, and the results are meeting our expectations. Paul also had a great session, both in Qualifying and in Hyperpole—kudos to him. Both PEUGEOT 9X8s are well-positioned for the race start tomorrow. From what we saw in Free Practice, our race pace looks solid, which is very promising. We have potential, but nothing is guaranteed—we’ll need to stay focused and match the operational excellence we showed at the last edition of the 24 Hours.”

Team Peugeot TotalEnergies Fought Hard at the Rolex 6 Hours of São Paulo

Team Peugeot TotalEnergies Fought Hard at the Rolex 6 Hours of São Paulo
SHERIDAN, WYOMING – September 23, 2025 – Team Peugeot TotalEnergies returned to Brazil with high hopes for the Rolex 6 Hours of São Paulo, eager to bounce back after the challenging 24 Hours of Le Mans. Despite not reaping the rewards of their Le Mans efforts, the French team showed unwavering determination as they tackled the legendary Interlagos circuit, marking the start of the FIA World Endurance Championship's overseas season.

Pushing Forward After Le Mans

The São Paulo race signaled a fresh start for the second half of the season, and Team Peugeot TotalEnergies embraced the opportunity to confirm the progress glimpsed earlier in the year. The iconic Autódromo José Carlos Pace — twisting between São Paulo’s Guarapiranga and Billings lakes — once again tested the endurance and precision of every team.

Although the team had finished eighth with the PEUGEOT 9X8 #93 last year, this time they aimed for a stronger result, armed with valuable experience on the unique 4.309 km circuit.

“We were discovering this unique and historic Interlagos circuit,” said Olivier Jansonnie, Technical Director of Peugeot Sport. “It’s a very varied track with fast sections and a tighter, twistier part. The circuit has been partially resurfaced since last year’s race. Teams used different tire strategies, and we didn’t have full control of things on our side during that race! We’ll be better prepared this year.”

A New Driver Line-up for São Paulo

Due to a clash with the FIA Formula E World Championship’s Berlin E-Prix, the team adjusted its driver roster. Paul Di Resta and Mikkel Jensen took charge of the PEUGEOT 9X8 #93, while Loïc Duval and Malthe Jakobsen handled the #94. Test driver Théo Pourchaire also traveled to Brazil as a backup.

Paul Di Resta shared his excitement before the race: “I’m looking forward to returning to Interlagos, where I’ve raced in Formula 1 and last year in Hypercar. It’s a special circuit, notably because it runs counter-clockwise – it’s a big challenge. I hope we can rediscover our performance level from Spa-Francorchamps and secure a strong result. With JEV racing in Berlin, there’ll just be the two of us sharing the #93, so we’ll get more driving time. Everyone’s well rested after Le Mans and we’re ready to kick off the second half of the championship.”

For Malthe Jakobsen, the event marked his debut at the iconic circuit. “This will be my first time at Interlagos, such a legendary circuit – I can’t wait. I’ve been preparing in the simulator, which is a very valuable tool since our track time before the race is quite limited. The weather could also play a disruptive role. Even though our race pace wasn’t strong enough at Le Mans, the team performed really well operationally over the ten days. We’re ready for São Paulo and the second half of the season.”

Battling Through the São Paulo Challenge

Both PEUGEOT 9X8s hit the track on July 11 for practice sessions, pushing hard through qualifying and the thrilling Hyperpole shootout. The race itself began on July 13 at 1:30 PM local time, marking the fifth round of the 2025 FIA World Endurance Championship.

Jean-Marc Finot, Senior VP of Stellantis Motorsport, reflected on the team’s mindset: “Our goal is to have a strong second half of the season, starting with São Paulo where we’ll work on improving our race pace to stay in the fight, like we did in Spa-Francorchamps. We also need to maintain the same level of operational excellence we showed at Le Mans and apply Brazil’s national motto to ourselves: ‘Ordem e Progresso’, ‘Order and Progress’.”

A Season of Resilience and Determination

Though the São Paulo round posed its usual set of challenges, Team Peugeot TotalEnergies demonstrated their relentless spirit and commitment to progress. The team leaves Brazil with valuable insights, energized for the remaining races of the FIA WEC season.

Peugeot Faces Tough Challenge at 24 Hours of Le Mans 2025

Submitted by newsonline24.c… on
Peugeot Faces Tough Challenge at 24 Hours of Le Mans 2025
SHERIDAN, WYOMING – September 23, 2025 – The 93rd edition of the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans brought mixed emotions for Team Peugeot TotalEnergies, who crossed the finish line with both their Hypercars but fell short of their competitive expectations after a promising start to the season.

A Determined Effort Amid Challenging Circumstances

Despite meticulous preparation and high hopes, the Peugeot 9X8 #94 and #93 finished 12th and 17th respectively in this grueling endurance race. Although #94 set a new Hypercar distance record with an impressive 384 laps (5,232 km), the final standings did not reflect the team’s relentless efforts on and off the track.

The team had shown strong performances in earlier World Endurance Championship rounds in Qatar, Imola, and Spa-Francorchamps, but the unique regulations and competitive dynamics at Le Mans posed unexpected hurdles.

Strategic Racing Against the Odds

Team Peugeot TotalEnergies faced an uphill battle from the outset. Their Test Day performance revealed a lack of competitive pace, and qualifying yielded only 17th and 18th places, keeping them out of the prestigious Hyperpole session. Despite this, the team remained focused and crafted a smart, dual-pronged race strategy:

  • Seize opportunities during race incidents.
  • Extend stints with triple tire usage to reduce pit stops, even if it meant slower lap times.

This approach allowed the #94 to briefly break into the top ten and even lead during pit stop cycles. However, a spin following contact with another Hypercar disrupted its momentum. Drivers Loïc Duval, Malthe Jakobsen, and Stoffel Vandoorne fought hard, ultimately securing 12th place.

Battling Adversity in the Heat of the Race

For the #93, the challenge began early. Forced to pit after avoiding a stranded GT3 car at the Porsche Curves, the car required significant repairs. A later steering issue cost them valuable time despite the crew’s swift response. Paul Di Resta, Mikkel Jensen, and Jean-Eric Vergne pushed through these setbacks to finish 17th.

Jean-Eric Vergne summed up the spirit of perseverance: “A really tough Le Mans for us. The #93 hit the tire wall at the Porsche Curves while avoiding a GT3 car. The team did an amazing job replacing the bodywork, but we lost a lap. Later, I had a steering issue during the night. Again, the crew did a great job, but we lost three or four more laps. We gave it everything we had. It’s too soon to draw conclusions. The positive takeaway is that both cars finished, and it’s always a pleasure to drive on this circuit.”

Pride in Teamwork and Professionalism

Despite the challenges, the team’s leadership highlighted the professionalism and commitment shown throughout the event.
Jean-Marc Finot, Senior VP of Stellantis Motorsport, stated: “We knew, given the regulations, that we would be at a disadvantage in terms of pace for this race. We saw it clearly in qualifying – no one was surprised. So we developed a strategy to account for that: energy saving, longer stints, and fewer overall stops. It worked with the #94, which was battling the front-row-starting Cadillac after six hours. I’m very proud of the team, which delivered a flawless and professional performance, with the same precision and commitment as if we were fighting for the podium.”

Technical Director Olivier Jansonnie echoed this sentiment: “Team Peugeot TotalEnergies delivered an impressive performance with very few mistakes, unlike some of our rivals who were frequently penalized. To achieve a respectable result here, we needed to be perfect. We were nearly perfect – from the engineers to the mechanics to the drivers. Kudos to everyone. The most important thing is to maintain this level of commitment – it will pay off when conditions improve.”

Looking Ahead with Confidence

The drivers also reflected on the positives despite the result. Malthe Jakobsen emphasized, “We finished P12. Maybe not the result we had hoped for, but we can still be satisfied. The car made it to the finish – we only had to refuel and change tires. Everyone did a fantastic job over the past 10 days here at Le Mans, and the pit stops were flawless. We just need more pace to be in contention for a better result.”

Loïc Duval added, “We finished 12th. It’s about where we expected to be this weekend after the Test Day. We knew it would be tough due to the regulations, but we optimized everything with the #94 and managed to battle with cars that were faster on paper.”

With the 6 Hours of São Paulo on July 13 marking the next stop in the FIA WEC season, Team Peugeot TotalEnergies remains motivated and determined to fight on.

Winward Racing Secures Podium Finish at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park

Submitted by newsonline24.c… on
Winward Racing Secures Podium Finish at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park
SHERIDAN, WYOMING – September 23, 2025 – The Winward Racing team has reclaimed its championship momentum with a hard-fought second-place finish in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship GT Daytona (GTD) class at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. Despite a dramatic late-race caution that ended the contest under yellow, co-drivers Russell Ward and Philip Ellis powered the No. 57 Mercedes-AMG GT3 back to the podium — and further strengthened their lead in the 2025 championship standings.
A Strong Weekend Performance Despite Late-Race Drama

From the start of the weekend, Winward Racing demonstrated top-tier performance. Ward secured second place in GTD qualifying on Saturday and maintained that spot throughout his opening race stint.

After Ward completed his required driving time, Ellis took over and continued to push the pace. He led the race for 14 laps midway through the event, showcasing both his skill and the team's strong strategy. Even after a competitive pit stop shuffled the field, Ellis worked his way back up to second place.

With just 17 minutes remaining, Ellis prepared for a decisive move on the race leader. But a full-course caution two minutes later froze the field and sealed the race result. Still, the team's strong performance paid off in the points battle.

Championship Lead Expands After Consistent Podium Form

The Canadian outing marked an important recovery for the reigning GTD champions after a tough race at Watkins Glen. Winward Racing entered the weekend with a 60-point championship lead and left Canada with that margin expanded to 93 points — 1,902 to 1,809 — over their nearest rivals.

Mercedes-AMG also maintained its dominance in the GTD manufacturer standings, holding a commanding 174-point advantage over the next competitor, thanks to the team’s consistent success.

Driver Reflections on a Positive Weekend

Ward praised his team's form and spirit, saying, "I really can't give the guys enough accolades. We just seem to be in incredible form, the motivation is high, and everybody is just excited to be there, and the results are coming as a consequence. We have always been really, really good at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, and back in 2018 we had one of our first podiums with our Mercedes-AMG GT4 there. It's a good track for us and I am proud of everybody's performance on the team, my qualifying and my run in the race, and Philip at the end. He had four overtakes to get us back in second place, and without a couple of late-race cautions, we would have been a contender for the top step of the podium. It's good to gain back some points in the championship and we just need to keep our focus and execute in the final races."

Ellis echoed the positive sentiment, sharing, "All in all we had a really strong weekend, starting off with great qualifying by Russell, one of his best, and that really set us up for a great race as well. We were a little bit unlucky on the strategy side, the way the cautions fell, but we had great pit stops again with the crew. We gained a couple of seconds on everybody else during our stops, as we always do. They make my life much easier and gave me a great car where we could then also attack and make up some positions on track. Ultimately, those were the keys to success for this weekend. Just a great weekend. Russell has done a mega job, the team has done a mega job, and we are happy to be able to stretch our lead again a bit on the guys behind."

Road to the Championship Continues

The No. 57 Winward Racing team now looks ahead to the next round at Road America, set for August 1–3. With momentum on their side and the championship lead in hand, Ward, Ellis, and the Winward crew are aiming to continue their podium streak.

GM and Redwood Materials Partner to Power America's Growing Energy Demands
SHERIDAN, WYOMING – September 23, 2025 – General Motors and Redwood Materials are taking a bold step toward reshaping the future of energy storage by joining forces to advance the use of U.S.-built batteries for large-scale energy storage solutions. The two companies have signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding, aiming to accelerate the deployment of energy storage systems that leverage both new GM-manufactured batteries and second-life battery packs from GM electric vehicles.

This forward-thinking collaboration goes beyond the automotive industry, tapping into the rising demand for reliable, domestically produced energy storage solutions.

Meeting America’s Soaring Energy Needs

Kurt Kelty, GM’s Vice President of Batteries, Propulsion, and Sustainability, highlighted the growing importance of grid-scale energy storage. “The market for grid-scale batteries and backup power isn’t just expanding, it’s becoming essential infrastructure,” he said. “Electricity demand is climbing, and it’s only going to accelerate. To meet that challenge, the U.S. needs energy storage solutions that can be deployed quickly, economically, and made right here at home. GM batteries can play an integral role. We’re not just making better cars - we’re shaping the future of energy resilience.”

As electricity usage continues to rise—especially with the AI boom and the electrification of industries—energy storage systems are critical for maintaining grid stability and preventing power outages during peak demand.

Redwood Energy: A New Chapter in Power Solutions

In June, Redwood Materials launched Redwood Energy, a venture dedicated to building fast, cost-effective energy storage systems using both used EV battery packs and new battery modules. These systems are specifically designed to meet the surging energy needs of AI data centers and other high-demand applications.

The new memorandum allows Redwood to expand this expertise by integrating both second-life GM batteries and newly built U.S. batteries into its storage solutions. This creates a seamless, domestically sourced supply chain—from battery cell production to fully integrated storage systems.

Repurposing Batteries for a Stronger Energy Future

GM’s second-life batteries are already making a difference. They are currently part of the world’s largest second-life battery project and the largest microgrid in North America: a 12MW/63MWh installation at Redwood’s facility in Sparks, Nevada. This setup supports Crusoe, an AI infrastructure company, showcasing the practical impact of repurposed electric vehicle batteries.

JB Straubel, Founder and CEO of Redwood Materials, emphasized the urgency of this initiative. “Electricity demand is accelerating at an unprecedented pace, driven by AI and the rapid electrification of everything from transportation to industry,” he stated. “Both GM’s second-life EV batteries and new batteries can be deployed in Redwood’s energy storage systems, delivering fast, flexible power solutions and strengthening America’s energy and manufacturing independence.”

Looking Ahead to a Sustainable Energy Landscape

With U.S. electricity demand expected to surge—especially as AI data centers are projected to triple their share of national electricity use by 2028—the need for flexible, reliable energy storage solutions has never been greater. These systems are set to play a crucial role in offsetting power outages, balancing the grid, and securing the nation’s energy future.

GM and Redwood Materials plan to share more details about their partnership later in 2025, signaling continued momentum in shaping a sustainable, resilient energy infrastructure.
