MIAMI BEACH – October 28, 2026 -- Patients in South Florida choosing a hospital for stomach and bowel surgery now have a data point: Mount Sinai Medical Center ranks first in the state for gastrointestinal surgery, according to Healthgrades, the site Americans use to search for doctors and hospitals.

Mount Sinai lands in the top 5 in Florida across six categories

Beyond its #1 spot in gastrointestinal surgery, the hospital placed #3 for cranial neurosurgery. It ranked #5 for cardiac care, cardiology services, neurosciences and stroke care.

Mount Sinai has been named one of America's 100 Best Hospitals, the top 2% nationally, for three consecutive years. It also earned four specialty distinctions: Cardiac Care (2027), Pulmonary Care (2026-2027), Stroke Care (2024-2027) and Gastrointestinal Surgery (2024-2027).

Berlin – October 28, 2026 -- Travelers from Germany heading abroad over the holidays can find noticeably cheaper flights to several destinations, with tickets to Lima averaging 29 percent less than a year ago. That is the finding of the new KAYAK Travel Check-in for winter 2026.

Long-haul fares to Lima, Cairo and Mauritius have dropped

Flights to Cairo cost 18 percent less on average than last year. Flights to Port Louis on Mauritius are 14 percent cheaper. For travelers who would rather spend Christmas in summer temperatures than at a Christmas market, those are the biggest drops in KAYAK's data.

Milan, Rome and Vienna fares are down 6 to 7 percent

Short-haul trips have also gotten cheaper. A round-trip flight to Milan averages 116 euros, 7 percent below last year. Rome costs 169 euros on average, also 7 percent less. Vienna averages 170 euros, 6 percent cheaper than in 2025.

Frankfurt – October 28, 2026 -- Gardeners who want new perennials next year can start sowing in the coming weeks. Many perennial species are cold germinators: their seeds carry a built-in germination block that only several weeks of cold can lift. Sown in fall, the seeds spend winter in the soil and sprout from spring, depending on the species, according to Germany's Industrieverband Agrar (IVA).

Cold germinators fit sunny, shady and small spaces

The group includes perennials in a range of heights, flower colors and bloom times. Depending on the species, they pair with roses, grasses, bulbs or annual summer flowers. They suit sunny, partly shaded and shady spots, as well as small plots and planters. Combined with plants that bloom at other times, a bed stays attractive for many months.

Mainz – October 28, 2026 -- The drone of a vacuum cleaner, hair dryer or extractor hood helps some people wind down and fall asleep, while the same noises wear on others. Eberhard Schmidt, president of the Bundesinnung der Hörakustiker (biha), explains the phenomenon known as ASMR (Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response).

Monotone hums can calm babies and adults

Parents may know the effect: a baby who refuses to sleep can settle when the extractor hood runs. Some adults also use the sound of a vacuum cleaner or hair dryer to switch off and doze off. According to biha, this can go so far that the sound eventually becomes a necessary sleep aid.

ASMR brings a tingle that starts on the scalp

Acoustic, visual and tactile stimuli can all trigger a pleasant tingling that usually begins on the scalp and spreads across the body like a shiver. ASMR is the subject of scientific study and has seen a hype in recent years, especially on social media.

Schwäbisch Hall – October 28, 2026 -- KLAFS offers the patented Microsalt SaltProX, a compact dry-salt inhalation system that works at home or on the road and is meant to support the airways through the cold season.

Cold and dry air strain the airways in autumn and winter

The airways clear themselves with a thin layer of mucus that binds particles and pathogens. Millions of tiny cilia move this film toward the throat, where it is carried away. Cold outdoor air and dry heated air can dry out the mucous membranes and disrupt this process. When mucus becomes too thick, it is removed less effectively.

Microsalt SaltProX turns rock salt into microscopic particles

The system grinds natural rock salt into microscopic particles and disperses them in the room air. Inhaled particles settle on the mucous membranes and can help loosen thick mucus and ease its removal. Unlike steam inhalation, dry salt adds no extra moisture to the air.

Hangzhou, China – October 28, 2026 -- HIKMICRO is launching the STELLAR 4.0 thermal scope and the THUNDER 4.0 thermal clip-on, led by the flagship X-1280 models SX75LR 4.0 and TQ70CL 4.0, plus a broader range of 640-resolution models. The theme is "When Seeing Becomes Knowing": more usable detail at long distances, high magnification and against complex backgrounds.

The X-1280 models put more detail into the first view

The X-1280 models use an all-new optical design that pairs 1280 sensors with focal lengths of 70 mm and above. The aim is a detailed image the moment a hunter looks through the device, without extra zooming or adjustment. On the SX75LR 4.0, a 3.0x base magnification brings distant subjects closer while keeping the surrounding scene visible.
