SHERIDAN, WYOMING – Feb. 13, 2025 – The Ahrtal region is gearing up to host a one-of-a-kind event for wine enthusiasts and professionals alike: the Frühburgunder Forum. This exclusive gathering will showcase the exceptional qualities of this rare grape variety, highlighting its unique flavors and cultural significance.

A Celebration of Flavor and Heritage

"Brombeere, Kirsche und schwarze Johannisbeere – das sind die Aromen, die den fruchtigen, aber sehr seltenen Frühburgunder am besten beschreiben." With its distinct notes of blackberry, cherry, and black currant, the Frühburgunder offers a sensory experience unlike any other. This delicate red wine, prized for its rarity and complex flavors, has earned a special place in the hearts of wine connoisseurs.

"Aufgrund seines niedrigen Ertrags und der anspruchsvollen Kultivierung zählt der Frühburgunder zu den exklusivsten Rotweinen des Landes." Due to its low yield and demanding cultivation, the Frühburgunder is among the most exclusive red wines in Germany. Its rarity adds to its allure, making it a sought-after gem for collectors and aficionados.

The Ahrtal region, renowned for its viticulture, has been recognized by "Slow Food Deutschland" for its exceptional Frühburgunder. The organization has inducted the wine into its "Arche des Geschmacks" – a prestigious recognition bestowed upon regional specialties of significant cultural value.

A National Stage for a Rare Grape

On Saturday, May 10, 2025, the Ahrtal will become the epicenter of the Frühburgunder world as the Frühburgunder Forum opens its doors. This year's event, organized by Ahrwein e.V., takes on a new dimension, providing a national platform for this rare grape variety.

"35 Weingüter aus fünf deutschen Anbaugebieten präsentieren ihre besten Frühburgunder im stilvollen Ambiente des frisch sanierten Steigenberger Kurhaus-Saals in Bad Neuenahr." The forum will bring together 35 wineries from five German wine regions, showcasing their finest Frühburgunder wines in the elegant setting of the newly renovated Steigenberger Kurhaus-Saal in Bad Neuenahr.

From 11:30 AM to 5:30 PM, attendees will have the opportunity to sample over 100 Frühburgunder wines from 16 wineries in the Ahr region and estates from the Mosel, Pfalz, Nahe, and Rheinhessen regions. Expert-led presentations and discussions will complement the tastings, providing deeper insights into the world of Frühburgunder. Topics will include the history of the grape variety, a tasting of international Frühburgunders, and a discussion on "Alcohol Policy vs. Cultural Asset," featuring insights from European Parliament member Christine Schneider.

A Gourmet Evening to Delight the Senses

The festivities begin on the eve of the forum, May 9, with the Ahrwein e.V.'s Burgundy Evening. Held at the Hotel-Restaurant Hohenzollern, overlooking the picturesque Ahrtal, this exclusive event will treat guests to an exquisite five-course gourmet menu paired with exceptional Frühburgunder wines. The evening will be hosted by the Ahr Wine Queen, Annabell Stodden, and the Ahr Wine Princess, Laura Nietgen.
