How P&G’s Global Partnerships Are Powering a Greener, Circular Future

SHERIDAN, WYOMING – May 3, 2025 – Sustainability is more than just a buzzword—it’s becoming a lifestyle choice for millions. And now, thanks to global partnerships spearheaded by Procter & Gamble (P&G), consumers around the world can feel confident that their everyday purchases are part of a much bigger solution: a circular economy where waste is reduced, resources are reused, and the planet wins.

Designing Packaging with Purpose

It all starts with smarter design. P&G is rethinking packaging to make it more recyclable, practical, and sustainable. Their teams of designers and scientists are working together to ensure that every product package not only looks great but also serves a greater purpose.

For example:

  • Vicks DayQuil and NyQuil have transitioned from hard-to-recycle blister packs to fully recyclable bottles, featuring Ultra Concentrated LiquiCaps that are 25% smaller and easier to swallow.
  • Gillette and Venus razors now come in premium refillable kits packaged in FSC™-certified, plastic-free cardboard made from at least 50% recycled materials. These sleek, eco-conscious boxes are already available in every P&G region globally.

As P&G puts it, “We are honored to be recognized in the industry for packaging that challenges the status quo.”

Scaling Up Recycling Systems Worldwide

Creating recyclable products is only half the battle—the other half is making sure they’re actually recycled. That’s why P&G is teaming up with organizations like Closed Loop Partners and The Recycling Partnership to expand access to recycling across the U.S.

Key efforts include:

  • The Flexible Film Coalition, which is working to make curbside collection of soft plastic films and flexible packaging a reality.
  • International partnerships in Southeast Asia and Latin America to fund local startups and infrastructure, helping regions without strong recycling systems build them from the ground up.

One standout partner is Delterra, a nonprofit developing plastic waste solutions in emerging markets. Another is Circulate Capital, whose Ocean Fund invests in companies tackling plastic pollution through scalable, local innovations.

Refill and Reuse: A Smarter Way to Shop

Refillable and reusable products are reshaping how we consume. P&G is championing these eco-friendly models with everyday brands consumers trust.

Take Dawn Powerwash: the spray dispenser can be reused with simple refill packs, cutting plastic waste and cost. Similarly, Dawn Ultra Liquid Dish Soap now comes in refill sizes perfect for topping up those convenient EZ Squeeze bottles.

By helping consumers reuse instead of replace, P&G is turning small changes into big wins for the planet.

Innovative Recycling for a Circular Comeback

To truly close the loop, P&G is also addressing the demand for high-quality recycled materials. Their scientists have created VersoVita™, a breakthrough cleaning process that transforms used plastic into material that’s nearly as good as new.

This technology has been licensed to PureCycle Inc., which aims to process up to 50,000 tons of plastic per year. Additionally, a new joint development agreement with Dow will tackle polyethylene recycling next.

Efforts also include recovering small-format packaging like bottle caps—an often overlooked but valuable resource—with support from Closed Loop Partners.

The Path Forward: Progress Through Partnership

P&G’s vision of a circular future is only possible through collaboration. By joining forces with innovators, NGOs, and investors across the globe, they’re creating solutions that are not only scalable but also meaningful to everyday consumers.

“We are committed to fostering partnerships that can help reduce waste, increase recyclability and reuse, and drive systemic transformation in how the world makes, uses, and renews products.”

Together, we’re not just dreaming of a better future—we’re building it.
