SHERIDAN, WYOMING – Jan. 29, 2025 – The newly established women's network in the home improvement and gardening industry, "LaDIY," held its inaugural meeting on January 22, 2025, at the OBI in Wermelskirchen, Germany. Approximately 50 engaged industry representatives came together to exchange ideas, find inspiration, and network. The event marked the beginning of a long-term network aimed at strengthening the role of women in the industry and increasing their visibility.

LaDIY: A Collaborative Effort to Empower Women in DIY

LaDIY is a joint initiative of the German Retail Association for Home Improvement, Building and Gardening (BHB), the Manufacturers' Association for Home & Garden (HHG), and the Industrial Association for Gardening (IVG). This collaborative effort seeks to create a supportive and empowering space for women working in the traditionally male-dominated DIY sector.

Inspiring Leaders and Practical Advice

The first network meeting was opened by Pia Frey, Managing Director of Controlling and Personnel at Globus Fachmärkte GmbH & Co. KG, with an inspiring presentation about her career path. Frey encouraged participants to trust their gut feelings when making career decisions, to seize opportunities courageously, and to be authentic.

"Trust your instincts, be bold, and embrace your true self," Frey advised the attendees.

Following Frey's presentation, Katharina Tillmann, Marketing Manager at Alpina Farben GmbH, offered practical tips for success in the DIY industry. Tillmann shared her insights and strategies for navigating the industry and achieving professional goals.

Breaking Barriers and Building Networks

The day was rounded off by a presentation from Nadine Schulze, a representative of the women's network "Beyond Gender Agenda." Schulze explained the "Thomas-Kreislauf" – a phenomenon describing how men in leadership positions often hire and promote individuals similar to themselves – and demonstrated how women's networks and female role models can help break this cycle.

A Foundation for Future Success

The event was characterized by lively exchanges and engaging conversations. Participants appreciated the opportunity to share their experiences, learn from each other, and forge new connections.

"It was incredibly valuable to connect with other women in the industry," said one attendee. "I gained new perspectives and made connections that will undoubtedly help me in my career."

The successful kick-off event is intended to lay the foundation for future exchanges and contribute to promoting diversity in the home improvement and gardening industry. Further events and network meetings will follow in the coming months, and a mentoring program is also planned.

Looking Ahead: LaDIY's Vision for the Future

LaDIY is poised to become a driving force for change within the DIY sector. By providing a platform for women to connect, learn, and grow, the network is committed to fostering a more inclusive and diverse industry. The initiative's focus on mentorship, networking, and professional development will undoubtedly empower women to thrive in the world of DIY.
