SHERIDAN, WYOMING – Feb. 20, 2025 – Something like this is rare in the readers' choice of "Camping Sites of the Year" announced by the promobil magazine: With an enormous leap from tenth place in last year's ranking, the Urbachtal mobile home park in Neukirchen in the Knüllgebirge managed to reach the top position in its category this year. "This clearly shows that the site in the Kurhessian mountains is doing a lot of things right. The location of the site is beautiful and close to nature, the service and comfort are right, and there is an appealing range of restaurants. All of this is well received by mobile home drivers," says promobil editor-in-chief Dominic Vierneisel.
Readers' Choice Awards Highlight Top Motorhome Destinations
Every year, readers of promobil, Europe's largest motorhome magazine, vote for the most popular parking spaces in Germany, thereby recognizing the operators' special service offerings. Parking spaces are indispensable overnight accommodation options for motorhome drivers. Only those sites that either performed well in the past year and/or were rated at least 4.5 out of 5 stars by users of the promobil app "Stellplatz-Radar" are nominated for the readers' vote. In total, around 15,000 motorhome parking spaces are listed in the app.
Category Winners Showcase Variety and Quality
The winner of category A (up to 30 pitches) was the Haltern am See mobile home park in North Rhine-Westphalia, which was able to maintain its top 1 ranking from previous years. In contrast, in category B (up to 50 pitches) there was the surprise already mentioned: the Urbachtal mobile home park from Neukirchen in the Knüllgebirge catapulted itself to the top. In category C (up to 80 pitches), the mobile home park at Schiffertor in Stade was able to defend its first place, and the Achtern Diek mobile home park in Grömitz on the Bay of Lübeck in Schleswig-Holstein was once again at the top, winning in category D (over 80 pitches). The rankings also confirm a trend from previous years. Pitches on or near the water are particularly popular with mobile home owners.
Special Jury Prizes Recognize Innovation and Commitment
In addition to the trophies for the readers' choice, the three special prizes from the promobil expert jury were also presented today at the Travel + Camping trade fair in Essen. The editorial team of Europe's largest motorhome magazine is thus honoring the special commitment of the site operators. The site on the Mainwiesen in Marktbreit in Main Franconia was recognized for its successful redesign and expansion, which now accommodates twice as many motorhome owners. For the new Alpen Camping site in Aschau (Chiemgau), a newcomer to the field took the risk of investing and created a comfortable facility for 48 motorhomes. As is often the case with successful sites, the successful Kenzingen motorhome park in the town of the same name in Baden, which offers space for 58 vehicles, is also the result of a private initiative.
