Stellantis SUSTAINera Circular Economy Hub Celebrates First Year of Success, Remanufacturing Thousands of Parts and Vehicles

SHERIDAN, WYOMING – Dec. 15, 2024 – Stellantis, one of the world's leading automakers, is marking the first anniversary of its SUSTAINera Circular Economy Hub in Mirafiori, Turin. This innovative facility is playing a key role in the company's commitment to sustainability and its Dare Forward 2030 strategic plan.

A Hub of Circular Economy Innovation

The SUSTAINera Circular Economy Hub focuses on extending the lifespan of vehicle parts and vehicles through a 4R strategy: Remanufacturing, Repair, Reuse, and Recycle. In its first year of operation, the hub has achieved impressive results:

  • 10,000 engines, 10,000 gearboxes, and 1,000 electric vehicle batteries remanufactured: These components are restored to original equipment manufacturer (OEM) specifications, ensuring the same performance and warranty as new parts.
  • 5,000 vehicles reconditioned: Vehicles are given a new lease on life, meeting high-quality standards for resale.
  • 1.8 million components processed: The hub's sorting center processes components for remanufacturing, recycling, or reuse.

Sustainable and Profitable

The Circular Economy Hub's activities contribute to a more sustainable and profitable business model. Remanufactured parts are offered through the SUSTAINera range, providing customers with affordable and environmentally friendly options. Reconditioned vehicles are sold through the SPOTiCar used vehicle program.

"The business generated by all these activities is sustainable as it contributes to the reduction of the environmental impact, is profitable, and directly contributes to the target to achieve more than €2 billion Circular Economy revenues by 2030, as part of Dare Forward 2030," states the Stellantis press release.

Environmental Benefits

By extending the life of parts and vehicles, the hub helps reduce waste and minimize the need for new resources. This contributes to Stellantis' goal of becoming a carbon net zero corporation by 2038.

Creating Jobs and Upskilling Employees

The SUSTAINera Circular Economy Hub is not only good for the environment but also for the local economy. The facility has already created nearly 500 jobs, exceeding initial projections.

"It currently employs nearly 500 upskilled employees, which, one year early, is already very close to the original target to achieve 550 by 2025," says Stellantis.

A Model for Sustainable Practices

The SUSTAINera Circular Economy Hub serves as a model for sustainable practices in the automotive industry. By combining innovation, efficiency, and a commitment to environmental responsibility, Stellantis is demonstrating how circular economy principles can drive both business success and a more sustainable future.
