SHERIDAN, WYOMING – November 18, 2024 – Avina Clean Hydrogen is making significant strides in the development of a green hydrogen production and refueling facility in Southern California. This initiative is poised to play a crucial role in expanding the state's hydrogen infrastructure and supporting the growing demand for clean energy solutions.

Strategic Location

The facility is strategically located approximately ten miles from the Port of Long Beach, a major transportation hub. This prime location will enable Avina to effectively serve critical transportation corridors and urban markets, meeting the increasing demand for clean hydrogen across the region.

Production Capacity and Target Market

Once operational, the facility is expected to produce an estimated 1,400 tonnes of compressed hydrogen annually. The primary focus will be on serving the state's transportation industry, contributing to the decarbonization of heavy-duty trucks, buses, and other vehicles.

Partnerships and Support

Avina has garnered support from key partners in the development of this project. The City of Vernon and FASTECH have provided assistance throughout the development, construction, and commissioning phases.

Environmental Permits Secured

In September, Avina secured the necessary environmental permits to commence construction. The project is currently on schedule, with construction underway and commercial operations expected to begin in July 2025.

Meeting the Growing Demand for Clean Hydrogen

Vishal Shah, Founder and CEO of Avina, emphasized the strategic importance of the facility's location:

"serve critical transportation corridors and urban markets...meet the growing demands for clean hydrogen across the region."

Supporting California's Clean Energy Goals

Katrina Fritz, CEO of the California Hydrogen Business Council, expressed her support for the project:

"This facility will serve the expanding end uses of hydrogen in California, such as zero-emission trucks and buses and distributed power generation to decarbonise and improve air quality in our local communities."

A Key Contributor to California's Hydrogen Economy

Avina's green hydrogen production and refueling facility is poised to be a significant contributor to California's burgeoning hydrogen economy. The project aligns with the state's ambitious clean energy goals and its commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
