SHERIDAN, WYOMING – Jan. 29, 2025 – Suzuki Deutschland is taking a major step towards a greener future with the commissioning of a new photovoltaic system at its headquarters in Bensheim. This initiative underscores the company's dedication to sustainability and reducing its environmental footprint.

Harnessing the Power of the Sun

The newly installed photovoltaic system, operational since December 2024, is a testament to Suzuki's commitment to renewable energy. Comprising nearly 2,500 solar panels, the system covers an impressive 11,500 square meters – equivalent to the size of two football fields. With a capacity of 1,109 kilowatt-peak (kWp), it is expected to generate approximately 965,000 kWh of electricity annually. This substantial energy production will allow Suzuki Deutschland to meet 90% of its own electricity needs, significantly reducing its reliance on conventional energy sources.

Reducing Carbon Footprint and Embracing Green Technologies

The environmental benefits of this project are significant. The photovoltaic system is projected to reduce CO2 emissions by an estimated 700 tons per year. This substantial reduction contributes to Suzuki's global sustainability efforts and aligns with the company's broader environmental goals.

"The new photovoltaic system is a major contribution to the modernization of our headquarters in Bensheim," says Daniel Schnell, Deputy Managing Director of Suzuki Deutschland GmbH. "It ensures significant savings in energy costs and reduces our CO2 footprint. This way, we are also contributing to the efforts of the entire Suzuki Motor Corporation in the area of sustainability and efficiency."

A Holistic Approach to Sustainability

Beyond the photovoltaic system, Suzuki Deutschland is implementing a range of measures to enhance energy efficiency. Recent initiatives include the modernization of the lighting system in the company's warehouse, the largest energy consumer at the Bensheim site. The transition to energy-efficient technologies has already yielded significant energy savings.

Looking Ahead: Electrification and Infrastructure

Suzuki Deutschland is also proactively preparing for the future of mobility. The company is currently developing a charging infrastructure at its Bensheim facility to accommodate around 40 electric vehicles. This infrastructure will support the launch of the Suzuki e VITARA, the brand's first battery electric vehicle (BEV) slated for release in Germany in the second half of 2025. (The Suzuki e VITARA is not yet available for sale. Homologation and energy consumption determination will take place immediately before market launch).
