SHERIDAN, WYOMING – November 29, 2024 - BMW Motorrad has provided a glimpse into the future of adventure riding with the BMW Concept F 450 GS, a near-production-ready motorcycle designed for the A2 license class. This exciting concept showcases a potential new model series positioned between the BMW G 310 and F 800/900, offering riders an accessible and capable off-road machine.
Optimized for Handling and Performance
"What was particularly important to us in the development of the new BMW Concept F 450 GS was to achieve the best handling for this segment and combine it with strong performance and optimal accessibility," said Sepp Mächler, Product Manager at BMW Motorrad. "The riding pleasure on-road and off-road is a top priority for this A2 BMW GS."
Unmistakable GS DNA
The Concept F 450 GS embodies the signature design elements of the BMW GS family, with a rugged yet sporty aesthetic that evokes a sense of adventure. "The BMW Concept F 450 GS carries the characteristic DNA of the GS family," said Alexander Buckan, Head of BMW Motorrad Design. "We have succeeded in designing the Concept with the sporty dynamic appeal of our large off-road icon in a particularly compact form."
The concept bike features a striking blue, white, and red color scheme with a Racing Blue metallic base, reminiscent of the BMW R 1300 GS Trophy version. This bold design reflects the bike's dynamic performance and off-road capabilities.
Newly Developed Twin-Cylinder Engine
The heart of the Concept F 450 GS is a newly developed twin-cylinder inline engine, designed to deliver impressive performance while adhering to the A2 license class restrictions. With a unique ignition offset, the engine offers a distinctive character and eager responsiveness. It produces the maximum allowed 48 hp for the A2 class and provides ample torque even at low revs.
Lightweight Construction and Advanced Chassis
The Concept F 450 GS features a lightweight construction and advanced chassis technology, setting new standards in its segment. "We were able to start the development of this vehicle with a clean slate," said Marc Weber, lead engineer of the BMW Concept F 450 GS. "The aim was to enable excellent off-road capability and, at the same time, a nimble and precise handling on the road."
The bike is equipped with a fully adjustable upside-down fork and a shock absorber with load-dependent damping, drawing inspiration from rally and enduro racing technology. Its lightweight design contributes to a remarkably low weight, close to the minimum requirement for the A2 class.
Safety and Functionality
Inspired by its larger sibling, the BMW R 1300 GS, the Concept F 450 GS incorporates advanced safety and functionality features, including BMW Motorrad ABS Pro, a performance brake system, and configurable riding modes. BMW Connectivity and a 6.5-inch TFT display enable seamless integration with smartphones and other accessories.
Looking Ahead to the Production Model
BMW Motorrad plans to introduce a production version of the Concept F 450 GS in 2025. Johann Simon, vehicle project manager, assures that the production model will stay true to the concept's sporty off-road focus, with adjustments primarily focused on optimizing seat height for accessibility and handling.
A New Era of Adventure Riding
The BMW Concept F 450 GS signals a new era of accessible and capable adventure motorcycles. With its powerful engine, lightweight design, and advanced technology, this exciting concept promises to deliver an exhilarating riding experience both on and off the road.
