
SHERIDAN, WYOMING – Mar. 6, 2025 – After the sharp rise in fuel prices at the beginning of 2025, average fuel prices in Germany increased only slightly in February. Super E5 rose by 1.1 cents per liter, Super E10 by 1.2 cents, and diesel by 0.7 cents. The average price per liter for Super E5 in February stood at 1.804 euros, 1.746 euros for Super E10, and 1.683 euros for diesel.
Price Trends Throughout February
On February 27th, Super E5 reached its lowest price at 1.787 euros per liter, whereas its peak price occurred on February 11th at 1.816 euros per liter. Despite fluctuations throughout the month, fuel prices showed a noticeable decline toward the end of February. Analysis indicates that Thursdays and Fridays presented the most affordable refueling opportunities, while prices were highest on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Fluctuations in Fuel Prices
February saw consistent fluctuations in fuel prices. The daily changes ranged from 9.8 to 11.2 cents per liter for Super E5 and Super E10. Diesel prices also demonstrated volatility, fluctuating between 10.8 and 12.5 cents per liter on average.
Regional Price Variations: Super E5 Cheapest in Berlin, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, and North Rhine-Westphalia
Fuel prices varied significantly across different regions in Germany. In February, Berlin recorded the lowest price for Super E5 at 1.775 euros per liter, followed by Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania at 1.788 euros and North Rhine-Westphalia at 1.791 euros. Conversely, Saxony-Anhalt had the highest price at 1.818 euros, with Saxony at 1.822 euros and Saarland at 1.827 euros per liter.
Motorway Fuel Prices: Slight Increase Noted
Fuel prices on German motorways experienced a minor increase in February. Super E5 rose by 0.7 cents to an average of 1.97 euros per liter. Notably, Hamburg registered the highest motorway price at 2.331 euros per liter, followed by North Rhine-Westphalia at 2.212 euros per liter. However, significant savings were available when refueling off the motorways. In Hamburg, for example, drivers could save up to 52 cents per liter of Super E5, translating to a total savings of 36.40 euros for a 70-liter tank.
City Rankings: Significant Regional Differences in Fuel Prices
In February 2025, substantial differences in fuel prices were observed across German cities. The highest Super E5 prices were recorded in Konstanz at 1.956 euros per liter, followed by Dormagen at 1.91 euros and Trier at 1.897 euros. Meanwhile, the most affordable prices were found in Langenfeld (Rhineland) at 1.741 euros per liter, Castrop-Rauxel at 1.742 euros, and Hilden at 1.744 euros. The price gap between the most expensive and cheapest cities widened from 19.4 cents to 21.5 cents per liter.
Brand Ranking 2025: Most and Least Expensive Fuel Providers
Among fuel brands, ED, Globus, and OIL! offered the most affordable Super E5 prices at 1.751 euros, 1.773 euros, and 1.778 euros per liter, respectively. On the other hand, Aral (1.824 euros), AGIP ENI (1.817 euros), and Shell (1.81 euros) were the most expensive. The price disparity between the cheapest and most expensive fuel brands reached 7.3 cents per liter of Super E5.
