SHERIDAN, WYOMING – June 23, 2025 – From dominating the world's most iconic racetracks to empowering everyday drivers with high-performance road tires, the Goodyear Eagle has become a symbol of excellence in motorsport and beyond. Celebrating its 45th anniversary, Goodyear is shining a spotlight on the legendary Eagle tire’s legacy—a story rooted in racing heritage and driven by innovation.
A legacy built on speed, innovation, and American spirit
The Goodyear Eagle story began long before it bore the iconic name. As early as 1901, Henry Ford’s race-winning car rolled on Goodyear tires, launching a century-long tradition of turning track-tested technology into everyday driving excellence. The company's philosophy was simple yet groundbreaking: use the racetrack as the ultimate proving ground to create better tires for the road.
By the 1950s, Goodyear had firmly embedded itself in the world of motorsport, entering the NASCAR scene in 1954. International success soon followed—starting with victories at Le Mans and the Mexican Grand Prix in 1965. This kicked off an era where Goodyear became synonymous with championship glory on both sides of the Atlantic.
Mastering motorsport’s 'Triple Crown'
While most fans recognize Graham Hill as the only driver to win motorsport’s elusive Triple Crown—Monaco Grand Prix, Le Mans, and the Indianapolis 500—Goodyear has achieved that feat eight times as a tire manufacturer.
- In 1967, A.J. Foyt’s back-to-back wins at the Indy 500 and Le Mans, followed by Denny Hulme’s Monaco victory, gave Goodyear its first Triple Crown.
- From 1973 to 1994, Goodyear repeated this legendary feat seven more times.
- It remains the only tire company to win the Triple Crown in tandem with a Formula 1 drivers’ championship.
Goodyear also unofficially claims a “Quadruple Crown,” adding the Daytona 500 to the mix—yet another stage where its dominance is unmatched.
The birth of Eagle: Where race meets road
By 1980, Goodyear had committed to bringing motorsport technology to everyday drivers. That year, it introduced the Goodyear Eagle brand—performance tires built with the DNA of championship-winning rubber. Branded with the same name on both track and road products, Goodyear made sure the link between racing pedigree and consumer benefit was unmistakable.
With original equipment manufacturer (OEM) partnerships from Ferrari to Ford, the Eagle range quickly became a favorite among driving enthusiasts. And with a record 368 Formula 1 Grand Prix victories to its name, no other brand could match Goodyear’s competitive credibility.
Endurance, evolution, and excellence today
In 2024, Goodyear proudly marked 70 years as the official tire of NASCAR. From its first NASCAR tire test at Darlington Raceway in 1954 to today's 18-inch spec tires for Next Gen stock cars, the company has been central to American racing culture. Each year, over 100,000 racing tires are crafted by hand at Goodyear’s Akron, Ohio, facility—underscoring its deep commitment to quality and performance.
Meanwhile, Goodyear has also made a triumphant return to international endurance racing:
- First LMP2 class victory in the FIA World Endurance Championship at Shanghai (2019)
- Full return to Le Mans in 2020
- Exclusive tire supplier for the LMGT3 category since 2024
Today, Goodyear Eagle tires are competing across four continents with cars from Aston Martin, BMW, Corvette, Ferrari, Ford, Lexus, McLaren, Mercedes-AMG, and Porsche. And because these racing tires are built alongside the road-ready Eagle F1 SuperSport lineup, the connection between performance driving and motorsport has never been closer.
Celebrating the road ahead
Goodyear’s Eagle tire isn’t just a product—it’s a legacy. As Goodyear continues to innovate and compete at the highest levels of motorsport, everyday drivers benefit from the same passion and precision.
