SHERIDAN, WYOMING – April 21, 2025 - A bold new chapter in catamaran design sets sail with the launch of the Excess 13, a model that captures the essence of adventurous, free-spirited sailing. Designed for passionate sailors and ocean lovers alike, the Excess 13 is more than a boat—it’s an invitation to embrace life at sea with exhilaration, style, and simplicity.
A New Level of Identity and Innovation
Excess 13 asserts the brand’s dynamic personality
With the Excess 13, the brand's identity grows stronger than ever. Developed with insight from a new team of architects, this catamaran features a modern, dynamic, and efficient interior design that perfectly complements its exterior lines. Created by a team of passionate sailors, the Excess 13 is the culmination of deep reflection on the joy of sailing, the comfort of onboard living, and the boundless playground of the sea.
A New Team of Architects at the Helm
A continuation of innovative design, shaped by expert hands
This new model preserves the DNA of the Excess range, originally crafted with the expertise of the VPLP team and Patrick Le Quément. Now, with the involvement of Marc Lombard YDG, the Excess Design Team advances the development of a new generation of innovative catamarans.
“The project was simple yet ambitious: to create a catamaran that would evolve and be balanced, reliable and offer good sensations, all combined with the comfort and interior volume that have made Excess such a success.
The form of the hulls, the weight, the composite structure, the interior layout, the ergonomics, the efficiency of the sail plan... Everything on this new Excess is designed around the pleasure of easy sailing and comfortable living on board.”
— Eric Levet, Cabinet Lombard, naval architect of the new Excess 13
Design: A Finer Expression of the Brand’s DNA
Inspiration drawn from deep brand understanding
The design of the Excess 13 evolves from the foundation of earlier models. While keeping the signature lines of the hull and the window shapes, the Excess teams have refined these elements to create a fresh model that remains true to the brand’s spirit.
For the interior, designer Jean-Marc Piaton took a unique approach by starting with a series of interviews to fully immerse himself in the essence of the brand.
“We listened to a good thirty people talk to us about the brand: employees, owners, dealers, charterers... What emerged was a very positive and, above all, highly identified perception. This is both very rare for such a young brand, and very interesting when considering its design.”
— Jean-Marc Piaton, Interior Designer for the new Excess 13
Less is More
A philosophy of efficiency, simplicity, and smart functionality
Inspired by the principle of “less is more,” the Excess 13 was created to offer greater comfort and functionality while reducing material usage and environmental impact. The goal: to build lighter yet more durable boats that heighten the joy of sailing.
“Less is more means a constant search for optimization. Aboard the Excess 13, for example, we have installed a rainwater recovery system on the coachroof, which is then stored in a tank. An efficient ventilation system limits the power demanded by the air conditioning unit. Cabin doors have a dual function, as both entrance door and closet door. When one is open, the other is closed. This may seem anecdotal, but with less material and more room for passing, it’s the little details that, put together, make all the difference.”
— Hervé Piveteau, Excess 13 Product Manager
More Intense Sailing
A true cruising catamaran for ocean passage-making
The Excess 13 is designed for sailors who crave a deeper connection with the sea. From the moment you leave the harbor, you feel the boat's potential—light, responsive, and exhilarating. The asymmetrical hulls glide easily through water, delivering superior performance without sacrificing living space.
Structural innovations focus on reducing weight, making the boat more agile and increasing sensations under sail. The direct helm enhances responsiveness, while the forward-facing chart table ensures precise navigation and a stronger link to the elements.
On Board, Optimum Comfort
Spacious, sunlit interiors that blend practicality and pleasure
Life aboard the Excess 13 is defined by comfort and intelligent design. A naturally lit saloon and a galley that opens into the cockpit create fluid transitions between interior and exterior spaces. The owner’s hull features a large bedroom, a spacious forward bathroom, and even a dressing room—rare in this size category. An ergonomic workspace enables seamless work-life balance at sea. The opposite hull accommodates two guest cabins, each with a private bathroom, offering comfort and privacy.
The Sea as Your Playground
Designed for every waterborne adventure
At anchor, the Excess 13 transforms into an activity hub for every type of sea lover. Fold-down sugarscoops offer safe, efficient access to the water, inspired by monohull functionality. Large exterior storage areas accommodate gear for diving, snorkeling, wingfoiling, or kitesurfing—whatever your next challenge may be.
Set your course for adventure with the Excess 13 and experience a new dimension of sailing.
