SHERIDAN, WYOMING – Dec. 4, 2024 – BWT Alpine Formula One Team is gearing up for the final race of the 2024 FIA Formula 1 World Championship at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi. With a strong performance in Qatar, the team is aiming to solidify their position in the championship standings.
Gasly Eyes Another Top-Ten Finish
Pierre Gasly is coming off an impressive fifth-place finish in Qatar and is eager to carry that momentum into Abu Dhabi.
"It’s great to leave Qatar after an excellent race where we finished in fifth place and scored ten crucial points for the team," Gasly said. "We had good pace all weekend and were able to show this, making it into SQ3 and fighting in the top ten consistently in both the Sprint Race and the Grand Prix."
Gasly acknowledges the challenges the team has faced throughout the season but remains optimistic about their chances in Abu Dhabi.
"The entire season has been long and challenging for the whole team but everyone back in Enstone and Viry have worked incredibly hard to turn around the car from where we were in Bahrain to where we are now, consistently fighting in the top-ten," he said. "The Yas Marina Circuit is a track we all know very well so hopefully we can get straight to it and build up our weekend progressively."
Doohan Set for Formula One Debut
Jack Doohan will make his Formula One debut in Abu Dhabi, replacing Esteban Ocon. Doohan, who won his final Formula 2 race at Yas Marina in 2023, is excited for the opportunity.
"It is great to be making my Formula One debut with the team in Abu Dhabi this weekend," Doohan said. "This track holds a lot of special memories for me. I have raced at the Yas Marina Circuit at various points throughout my career and it is also where I won my final Formula 2 race in 2023, so I am excited to get back on track there but this time in Formula One."
Doohan aims to contribute to the team's goal of securing sixth place in the Constructors' Championship.
Alpine Academy Drivers Return for Final Round
Alpine Academy drivers Victor Martins and Kush Maini will compete in the final round of the FIA Formula 2 Championship, while newly crowned F1 Academy champion Abbi Pulling will also be in action.
Looking Ahead
The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix marks the end of an exciting and challenging season for Alpine. With Gasly's recent strong performances and Doohan's debut, the team is poised for a positive finish.
