SHERIDAN, WYOMING – Dec. 4, 2024 – In a groundbreaking move that merges American automotive excellence with the world's most prestigious motorsport, General Motors is launching a Cadillac Formula 1 team. Set to debut in 2026, this landmark venture marks Cadillac's entry into the pinnacle of racing, promising to bring innovation, excitement, and a distinctly American spirit to the global stage.

A New Era for Cadillac and Formula 1

General Motors, in partnership with TWG Global, has reached an agreement in principle with Formula 1 to bring the Cadillac team to the grid. This will make Cadillac the first new team to join F1 since 2016 and the eleventh team overall.

"As the pinnacle of motorsports, F1 demands boundary-pushing innovation and excellence," said GM President Mark Reuss. "It’s an honor for General Motors and Cadillac to join the world’s premier racing series, and we’re committed to competing with passion and integrity to elevate the sport for race fans around the world. This is a global stage for us to demonstrate GM’s engineering expertise and technology leadership at an entirely new level.”

Driving the Future of Transportation

The Cadillac Formula 1 team will not only compete for victory on the track but also serve as a catalyst for innovation in automotive technology. The knowledge and expertise gained from developing high-performance F1 cars and power units will contribute to GM's advancements in electrification, powertrain technology, software, and internal combustion engines, ultimately benefiting consumers worldwide.

A Global Showcase for American Innovation

The Cadillac Formula 1 team will showcase American innovation and design to a diverse international audience. By competing at the highest level of motorsport, Cadillac will demonstrate its commitment to pushing boundaries and delivering exceptional performance.

A Team with a Winning Legacy

The Cadillac Formula 1 team is built on a foundation of racing experience and expertise. GM boasts a rich history in motorsports, with over 3,000 wins and more than 100 driver and manufacturer championships. Mario Andretti, the last American F1 Champion, will serve as a director on the team's board, bringing his legendary knowledge and passion to the venture.

"My first love was Formula 1 and now – 70 years later – the F1 paddock is still my happy place," said Andretti. "I’m absolutely thrilled with Cadillac, Formula 1, Mark Walter, and Dan Towriss. To still be involved at this stage of my life — I have to pinch myself to make sure I’m not dreaming."

Building a World-Class Team

Since announcing its bid to join F1 in January 2023, Cadillac has assembled a skilled team with expertise in aerodynamics, chassis development, software, and simulation. The team has operations in the United States and the UK, combining global talent and resources.

"We're excited to partner with General Motors in bringing a dynamic presence to Formula 1,” said Dan Towriss, CEO of TWG Global’s motorsports businesses. "Together, we’re assembling a world-class team that will embody American innovation and deliver unforgettable moments to race fans around the world. We appreciate FIA and FOM’s support of our application and their recognition of the value we can bring to the championship.’’
