SHERIDAN, WYOMING – July 18, 2025 – In an impressive comeback after Le Mans, Team Peugeot TotalEnergies delivered its strongest performance of the season at the Rolex 6 Hours of São Paulo, with both PEUGEOT 9X8 Hypercars finishing in the points.
After starting from the second and third rows on the grid, both cars showed strong pace on the newly resurfaced Interlagos circuit. The PEUGEOT 9X8 #94, driven by Loïc Duval and Malthe Jakobsen, crossed the finish line in sixth place, closely followed by the #93 of Paul Di Resta and Mikkel Jensen in seventh.
A Strong Start and Promising Early Stints
The race began with both PEUGEOT 9X8s getting off to a confident start. Loïc Duval, behind the wheel of car #94, held onto fourth position with a lap time of 1:25.520 by lap five. Mikkel Jensen in car #93 gained a place early on, finishing the opening lap in fifth. Before the first pit stops, both cars advanced into third and fourth positions.
However, tire degradation on the fresh Interlagos asphalt forced Duval and Jensen to shorten their second stints. Despite this challenge, both cars maintained their qualifying positions after the second pit stop.
Double Stints and Teamwork Under Pressure
Following excellent qualifying performances, Malthe Jakobsen and Paul Di Resta took over driving duties for the middle part of the race, both on new medium compound tires. They pushed hard through traffic during a double stint, before handing the cars back to Duval and Jensen for the final hours.
The two-driver strategy paid off with consistent pace and sharp tire management — a key factor on the demanding circuit.
Final Push and Lessons Learned
After six hours of fierce competition, the #94 car finished sixth, followed closely by the #93 in seventh. This result marked a significant morale boost for Team Peugeot TotalEnergies after their tough outing at Le Mans.
Olivier Jansonnie, Peugeot Sport Technical Director, summed up the race saying, “Our race pace was as expected, but we may have underestimated the speed of our three direct competitors, who were very fast. We could have finished P5 and P6 — it’s a shame, but we lost time under FCY. We’ll need to analyze why. The gaps are getting tighter, and there will be more opportunities to perform well before the end of the season.”
Driver Mikkel Jensen reflected on the team’s performance: “The advantage of a two-driver lineup is that you learn a lot from the first double stint and can adjust accordingly at the end of the race. In this race, tire degradation management was crucial, and I did a better job of that during my final stint. Overall, it was a good weekend for the team, with strong performances in qualifying and a solid final result. Now we need to focus on tire degradation.”
Loïc Duval shared his race experience: “A pretty calm start for me and a good first stint. I struggled more in my second stint due to heavy rear tire degradation, which forced us to bring our pit stop forward. As a result, our final stint was a bit longer than that of our competitors, and on top of that, we were unlucky with the FCY, which cost us around fifteen seconds.”
Eyes on the Season’s Next Challenge
After this encouraging performance, Team Peugeot TotalEnergies will look to carry the momentum into the next FIA World Endurance Championship race at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, scheduled for early September.
