The new top athletes from MINI continue the legacy of racing legend John Cooper with impressive driving characteristics and legendary go-kart feeling. A two-liter, four-cylinder TwinPower Turbo gasoline engine underscores the powerful athleticism of the new MINI John Cooper Works models. 170 kW/231 hp output with 380 Nm maximum torque offer maximum driving fun and top performance in both the MINI John Cooper Works (fuel consumption combined: 6.8-6.5 l/100 km; CO2 emissions combined: 154-147 g/km according to WLTP) and the MINI John Cooper Works Convertible (fuel consumption combined: 7.1 - 6.8 l/100 km; CO2 emissions combined: 161-155 g/km according to WLTP). The MINI John Cooper Works takes 6.1 seconds and the MINI John Cooper Works Convertible 6.4 seconds to sprint from a standstill to 100 km/h. The MINI John Cooper Works reaches a top speed of 250 km/h and the MINI John Cooper Works Convertible 245 km/h.
A sporty automatic transmission with dual clutch enables fast gear changes for even more dynamism. The motorsport character of the new MINI John Cooper Works models can be experienced particularly intensely by actuating the two rocker switches to the left and right of the steering wheel. The specific chassis tuning guarantees the brand-typical go-kart feeling with agile handling. The brake system in Chili Red with JCW logo ensures precise and safe braking, even in challenging driving situations.
The passion for top performance shapes the MINI brand then as now. Just this year, a prototype based on the new MINI John Cooper Works won the class victory in the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring.
The large octagonal front grille in high-gloss black with the three-colored John Cooper Works logo and wide ventilation slots dominates the front view of the new MINI John Cooper Works models. This is followed by the front apron with upright additional air inlets and reflectors in red, ensuring optimum tempering of the drive as well as improved aerodynamics. On the hood with black MINI logo, optionally available red or black hood stripes emphasize the sporty design with racing tradition. MINI LED headlights with horizontal JCW-specific daytime running lights ensure a distinctive appearance. The rear view is characterized by the aerodynamically shaped rear spoiler and the black rear diffuser. The centrally positioned tailpipe further emphasizes the spirited character of the powerhouse. Exclusive wheel designs in 17-inch and 18-inch sizes round off the maximally sporty exterior design.
Eleven expressive body colors can be optionally accented for the new MINI John Cooper Works with a contrasting roof and mirror caps in Chili Red and Jet Black. An exclusive exterior paint finish in Copper Gray is available as an additional color option for the MINI John Cooper Works Convertible. The convertible top is available in black or with a Union Jack pattern in gray. It fully retracts in just 18 seconds at up to 30 km/h, allowing for unlimited open-air driving fun. In addition, a switch opens the soft top like a sunroof to a length of 40 cm and can be operated at any speed. The wind deflector reduces unwanted air turbulence and wind noise when driving and can be locked in place behind the driver's and front passenger's seats in just a few simple steps.
The interior design is based on the JCW typical red and black color scheme. The JCW sport seats guarantee secure support even during dynamic driving. The seats are made of black artificial leather with multicolored knitted material in the shoulder area and red accent stitching. The JCW sports steering wheel with textile six o'clock spoke in JCW design and shift paddles allows precise control in all traffic situations. A knitted surface on the dashboard transfers the racing history of MINI John Cooper Works into the cockpit with its black and red pattern. The exclusive Harman Kardon sound system enhances the emotional driving experience as standard.
The clearly designed cockpit is structured by the JCW sports steering wheel, the high-resolution OLED display and the typical MINI toggle switch bar. With a diameter of 240 mm, the new central instrument with high-quality glass surface provides information on all relevant vehicle data at all times and can be conveniently operated by both driver and front passenger. Further options for climate, media, telephone and navigation settings can be controlled by touch or voice control. The functions of the gear selector lever are taken over by the toggle switches of the toggle bar. This creates additional space in the center console for a storage compartment where smartphones can be charged via wireless charging.
The Go-Kart Mode is a perfect match for the new John Cooper Works models. With this MINI Experience Mode, the ambience in the cockpit is perfectly matched to performance and motorsport flair. In this mode, the display shows the driver not only the speed but also other performance-related data such as torque, power output in kW and the current g-force.
The advanced assistance systems in the MINI John Cooper Works and MINI John Cooper Works Convertible support the driver in a variety of traffic situations. With twelve ultrasonic sensors and four surround cameras, the digital assistance systems can independently take over recurring driving processes. For example, automatic speed and distance control makes driving in urban traffic easier. At higher speeds, the Driving Assistant Plus can support the driver with steering and lane keeping. The redesigned MINI Navigation makes it easier to find your way around thanks to 3D visualization and Augmented View. The Parking Assistant Plus takes over parking maneuvers on request.
